All in one Tumpkin DV allegation thread - fed judge dismisses lawsuit against CU

My personal experience with alcohol suggests that the impact of intoxication the evening before a game would have a much more profound impact on the physical tasks a player is expected to perform than on the mental, emotional and motivational tasks coaches are expected to perform. Legal activities conducted by people on their own time in their own homes are their own business. JT didn't cross a line getting ****-faced; the line was crossed, allegedly, when he committed violence against another.

That's your opinion but it still looks very bad on JT's behalf when it comes to telling the football players to stay out of trouble. That's two big strikes against JT: domestic violence and being intoxicated the evening before games especially before the WSU game. Suppose JT was in fact arrested before the WSU game, the media would be having a field day on that.

Given CU's history back in the early 2000s with the rape scandal, I wouldn't hesitate to fire JT if I was RG/MM. Not worth going through that media firestorm again.

I agree with the sentiments above; innocent until proven guilty for a crime, but after MM and RG investigate the facts they need to decide what is best for CU football quickly. If Tumpkin is retained on staff, they must feel the allegations are overblown and the situation can be corrected. Iirc Wristen had a similar issue that came out. Idk the severity of his situation, but he stayed on staff and never had another issue. If MM and RG feel the allegations are even partially true they should act quickly. They don't need to have the same requirements the legal system does. Domestic violence can not be tolerated. Tumpkin has a right to a fair trial for legal issues, but he doesn't have the right to be a NCAA football coach. If his behavior is determined to be unacceptable and hurts the program, he should be fired. CU doesn't have to abandon him, they should get him help if he needs it. Hopefully, MM and RG can make the right decision quickly and move forward.

Or, maybe that is the day she got up the courage to not want to live with that anymore.

Yes, 'Or'. That is exactly my point. There is an 'or' here and the guy shouldn't lose his job on the basis of an accusation, which at this point, is all we really know.

CU needs to get through this quickly, so that and the timing of this sets up nicely for a lawsuit or threat of a lawsuit as a next step.

I'm not in any way condoning the behavior if it is true, of course, nor am I saying it didn't happen. But false accusations happen all the time.

She filed on 12/20. The judge ruled on 12/30.

I suspect RG is winding up his investifation.

Well, I missed this thread. Needs to make a big hire at DC now without Tumpkin. Damn. Need a full staff on D.

The fact that more than a few folks here are calling for the immediate firing of JT based on a judge granting a TRO, and before any facts are confirmed, is just one reason I would DO EVERYTHING I COULD to dissuade a high level athlete kid of mine (or other relative) from ever signing with CU. Didn't you guys learn ANYTHING from the fake scandal?

I just wouldn't want a kid of mine run out of a university for unvetted allegations. IMO CU would likely do that. This is not a new opinion of mine. CU has shown itself to lack an institutional backbone in the past. I pull for the sports teams, would recommend the school to anyone for many of its academic programs, and am proud to be a grad. It's just not a stout place for support of its Ath Dept employees. Give Gary Barnett a call.

And ask him how he likes his current job with CU?

If you actually read the thread, a very small minority is calling for immediate firing. Everyone else seems to be acknowledging it is a bad look in the wake of losing two defensive coaches. You found what you wanted to find.

I agree the whole thing is a bad look and if true JT needs to go. I didn't want to pollute a non-Barzil thread and if you want to remove my posts from here that's OK with me.

I am not going to remove your posts. I think if you read through the thread, there are not a lot of extreme opinions either way. I think most agree it will/should prevent him from being promoted to DC, but beyond that, most are content to let it play out.

As an aside, with or without these allegations I didn't see him as a good DC candidate. Need to aim for someone more seasoned. Would like to get Diaco.

Agree with everything you said even if I have called for his firing. We are not the one being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to make those decisions. I'd prefer a quick resolution as well. I'm not sure if the Wristen issue would be a good comparison because people seem to be much more against DV than they were in the early 2000s.

Wut? Mac has been very forgiving to players who mess up.

Sounds like you are okay with CU bringing players like Joe Mixon to Boulder. And you doing everything you could to dissuade a high athlete kid from joining CU in that case...newsflash for you...CU isn't the ONLY school that wouldn't tolerate behavior like Tumpkin and for good reasons.

Whether it was a fake scandal or not, CU cannot afford to not send a message that it will never tolerate such behavior. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice shame on me.

Mixon is a punk. Hey, I'm just an "innocent until proven guilty" guy. You know, justice? Did you follow the Duke lacrosse story at all?

Coaches have a shorter leash on stuff lije this than players. IMO, as a coach, just having this hit the news is grounds for immediate termination. **** like this doesnt get this far without Joe ****ing up in a way that us unforgivable for someone in his standing. Regardless of what comes out of this legally, Joe **** the bed as a public figure and leader of young men.

Fire him now.

Yet many here wonder why the post-Barnett Era CU is often scrounging the cubby holes and back alleys of the coaching community for hires in it's football program….

Like we got Chev? I don't have a problem with that.

Youre trying to make a point that isn't there and are coming a ****-tier poster. Im glad you think getting drunk and being a ****ing moron and getting called for domestic violence is normal behavior for a grown ****ing man.

And if it turns out that he's completely innocent? Oops?

The seriousness of the charge doesn't determine the punishment, guilt (or innocence) does.
