2017 CU Players in the NFL (Plus Draft Thread)

That's actually not a bad spot for Sefo, if he can make the roster. No real pressure on him to be a starter, but an organization that seems to be trending in the right direction.

Gotta give CU Football social media credit, love how on top of things they are.

How much does a UDFA make?
Rookie minimum contract that only kicks in if they make the team (NFL players only get paid during the season on their contracts). For camp, they make a per diem like everyone else until the final cut. Maybe about $2k a week.

Would have thought he would go to a team that runs a 3-4.
Me, too. So I checked their scheme. Sounds like in their 4-man front, one of the DTs is supposed to anchor and draw a double team from the C-G so that the other DT can play outside shoulder of the opposite G. So they've got a 2-gap DT (Tupou) and a 1-gap DT.

Makes sense. Atkins is pretty good.

Correct, with a big exception. Some of the UDFAs are in high demand from multiple teams. In this case they can expect a bidding war with signing bonuses which they get to keep make the team or not.

Because of this for some guys it is better financially to not be drafted than to be taken late in the draft.

Don't know that any of the Buffs UDFAs fit this description but we have had some in past years.

I started to run through a very similar scenario in my head, but didn't have the inclination to look it up to confirm. Thank you - this makes it a great fit for Tupou!

This shows how momentum effects the ability to get a shot. We had a couple guys last year who should have had a chance. Glad and proud of these guys hard work!
