I’ve always seen it more as a dead zone than out of bounds. But it’s a touchback and if you change the TD rule you have to change the touchback rule.

Disagree. A team forces a fumble and it goes out of the end zone, they should be rewarded. That is such a huge play and huge momentum for a defense.
I do think it is stupid that it is a touch back though. Maybe go back to the 25 or midfield?

You want to be rewarded, recover the fumble. If you don't, then what's the big deal? Guy fumbled and it went out of the field of play without being recovered. Just because it happened near the goal line doesn't make it any different than if it had happened at the 50.

And a large infestation of surrender cobras has been reported in the vicinity of Autzen Stadium ... tread carefully in that area.

K. Well it isn’t changing. They’re not changing multiple rules just to change one. Anything behind the goal line results in touchback, safeties, change of field on kickoffs and turnovers. It isn’t a standard out of bounds.

I do think it is stupid that the other team gets the ball but not sure I agree they should just get the ball back wherever they fumbled. As a defense, you use the back of the end zone and sidelines as an extra defender in the red zone.
