Polls, rankings and bowl projections

Here's the way I'm seeing things nationally-One, I don't think the committee doesn't take two SEC teams again unless they don't think they have any other options-and I think the only way that happens is if three of the other four power five conferences all fail to produce champions that lose once or less. Two, a couple thoughts on Clemson. One, the ACC sucks this year. Two, if you ignore the fact that Clemson has made the playoff.....three years in a row for a second, can anybody make an argument that they're one of the top four teams in the country right now?

Here's where I'm going with that-I think the conference is going to get a team into the playoff, and I think Washington (right now) would be the likeliest candidate. If we win Saturday and and they beat Oregon, we'll have two shots at them unless we lose to somebody like Cal, Wazzu, or Utah. The other thing with this season is this feels like a much better shot to get into the Rose Bowl than we had even in 2016. So here's my take on this-Win Saturday, pull for Washington outside of the game against us on 10/20 (obviously), and root against Stanford and Oregon from a Rose Bowl perspective. I'd love to get into the CCG this year knowing that the Grandaddy of them all against Michigan or Penn State is the worst case scenario.

If Clemson is not a top 4-5 team in the country... who is?

Who has West Virginia beaten?

Beat a Texas Tech team last week on the road who was ranked at that time. They lost a game at NC State due to Hurricane Florence that would probably have helped them a ton nationally. Other than eeking out a win at Texas A&M, what has Clemson done? They were also pretty lucky to escape that Syracuse game with a victory.

Texas A&M is the better win.

You can't give WVU a hypothetical victory in a cancelled game.

Agree with that, and I wasn't trying to say WVU would have won that game had it been played. Having said that, not playing it does hurt how they're perceived nationally (Especially with the meat of their Big 12 schedule-Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma ahead of them) right now IMO, and that's more where I was trying to go. When it comes to game control or the eye test, I think this weekend was probably the first time outside of the A&M game (winning there by one or 30 is tough............and I think the same could be said for our win in Lincoln) where Clemson really looked impressive to me, and that factors into my opinion there as well. I'd still have Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Notre Dame ahead of both Clemson and WVU right now.

The folks in Lincoln are definitely counting the win against Akron.

And the spring game. They won that one, too.

The Texas and UConn writers don’t feel like we’v earned a spot in their top 25.

Looks like we were left off 3 ballots. Reporters covering the beats of:
1) Knoxville (EDIT - this is wrong - we are 15th on this ballot - hat tip to Buffalo Bill Cody for the correction)
2) Austin (figures...)
3) Uconn Huskies

Highest ranking appeared to be from the guy covering UCLA. LOL. He saw it first hand!

Big land grab with a win this weekend!

If we beat SC, it'll be because they're on a down year. If we lose to UW, it'll be I told you so. This year, we have to beat UW to get that respect. For the future, we have to string a few good years together.

I think Penn State would beat them, in addition to Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame. Hell, I think Texas, and maybe even CU, would beat them.
There's not much separation right now other than Alabama. We'll know a lot more after week 9. Which is why the CFB comes out in week 10 and everything before that is pretty much just mental masturbation to give us something to talk about.

Hmmm. If Clemson is going to be questioned, Georgia should be as well.

Why would anyone question Clemson? DL's elite. OL is close to that. Athletes everywhere. Expect to win as a program culture. Only thing is that we're waiting for a freshman QB to click. Once he does, they become scary.

Wrt Clemson v Georgia, I'm just saying that UGA has had a slight more difficult SoS while dealing with it a little more easily. Clemson has had a few more struggles than Georgia.

Pretty much spot on.

I guess I just do not see Clemson as that vulnerable. You say CU may be able to beat them? Do you really believe that?

That's awesome. Ranked #8 in his ballot, which is respectful of a an undefeated team after 5 weeks. How people can have that big of a variance is beyond me, though. Highest ranking of #8 and lowest of Unranked. lol

Are we talking about in a random regular season game? If so, then I do think we could beat them. If we're talking about the playoff or NY6 when they're dialed in with their A game for prime time... let's just say that a crazy number of things would have to go right for CU.

Nooooo. 100% rando season game.
