Over the weekend, Toler visited Colorado, the school he has been committed to since July. Buff head coach Mike MacIntyre was dismissed as the head coach earlier today.

“It was kind of weird,” Toler said. “I talked to him on Saturday but it was real short, almost like he knew something was going to happen. Then today on my way to airport, I heard the news over twitter and then my phone started to blow up.

“It’s kind of disappointing because I liked coach Mac but I’m still committed. I want to wait things out and see who they hire but I do plan to go through the recruiting process moving forward.”

Toler said several schools have reached out to him and he’ll likely take a few official visits.

“I’ve been hearing from Arizona State, Cal, Illinois and Vanderbilt,” Toler said. “Washington has hit me up a few times as well. I’ve been really impressed with ASU, they’re playing really well. They offered me right before I committed, I was going to take a visit but never had a chance to. I was going to give coach Herm (Edwards) a call tonight but I definitely want to check them out.

Vanderbilt?

1. Los Alamitos (worked out with Los Al, the summer going into 9th grade)
2. Mater Dei - with MD, the last two weeks of summer, and into freshman year
3. Santa Margarita (summer after 9th grade, three weeks)
4. Servite (two weeks)
5. Mater Dei - sophomore year
6. Jserra - (transferred in for spring semester, left Jserra at end of year)
7. LB Poly - (spent 3-4 weeks this summer left after Hawkins boys transferred in)
8. Long Beach Wilson - Made a sniff at LB Wilson,
9. Servite - Back with men in black Jr year
10.St John Bosco Sr Year.
Cu then

Something tells me this might NOT be over yet!

That's too bad. I liked this kid. As Coach Tucker said during his presser, there is always a place on the field for someone who can hit. Titus has the film of someone who loves to hit.

Good info. May not be over for Toler, but it's over for the Buffs.

Sounds like it. Which seems odd for him to completely drop us, unless it was always about MM, Ambrose/Brown for him, or MT told him to look elsewhere.
He was positive on the hiring announcement, and then started looking around pretty hard not long thereafter.

Also - worth noting, he didn't attend all those schools. When you read the entire posts, it's mentioned that his dad was the WR coach at Mater Dei his frosh year, but did not stay on. Sounds like the kid tried some programs out that summer, but returned to M.D.

His dad then later had a brief stay as a coach at JSerra (kid followed) but that didn't last long either. Depending on the situation with his Dad at those schools, it may be really good reason why he was looking to move on and ultimately did. But I think he actually attended 3 High schools, 2 of which his Dad coached at then he didn't any longer.....

This is a tough story to read. I get that things can go bad during a coaching transition, but HCMT should have reached out to Toler much sooner than he did.

Yikes. I don't get why Tucker slow played one of the better recruits on CU's verbal list at a position of glaring need that much. Egg on his face that he actually went to Bosco and saw him in person and gave him the late pitch to stay with CU. My first and only problem with Tucker to this point.

There's always the possibility that Tucker was silently encouraging Toler to decommit and then came in after the fact to position himself at Bosco for the future. It's better to look like you "dropped the ball" during the transition than to tell the kid he doesn't fit. And yes, I understand that Toler understood the Defense and is a heady player.

Or it could be that Tucker screwed this up royally, but given how they were on EVERYONE else and Tucker's expertise as a DB coach, it seems highly questionable to me that he dropped that ball. So I'd keep an open mind here.

Lastly, even if my first paragraph is right and Tucker was in fact slow playing the kid, even the best evaluators make mistakes all the time.

I don't think he dropped the ball by accident; I think it's clear he just didn't put a priority on Toler as a recruit until the 11th hour, at which point it was too late. He gets the BOTD until proven otherwise, particularly with the Secondary, but he had to have known Safety was going to be the thinnest and least talented position on the team (if he didn't then that is a failure on his part), and he still decided to alienate one of the better recruits, who also happened to be a legacy and simply needed reassurance that his offer was still on the table. It's not like Toler was a 5.5 rated kid with a bunch of FCS offers. Not only was Toler a pretty solid recruit, but it would have been another kid from Bosco coming to Boulder and the article pointed out just how important these connections are when arguably the biggest factor in committing to Wisconsin was Spencer Lytle.

You seem to have missed or ignored my simpler points:
1. Perhaps Tucker ignored him until after he committed to Wiscy and that his late re-entry was really about making sure he was still good with the high school coaching staff.
2. The ratings we have access to may or may not be how Tucker rated the recruit.

You don't take a kid from Bosco that you don't believe in, to "keep up the connections". You just don't have room for that. And that usually ends up screwing things up.

Before everyone jumps on me about it, I'm not saying that these are the facts, or that Toler isn't a good player. But I just find it hard to believe that Tucker wanted Toler and then somehow forgot about him until the 11th hour. He didn't do that on the other Safety we signed from down the road from Toler.

1. I think you're right that Tucker ignored him, but I don't think he was just trying to save face with the Bosco coaching staff. I think his late re-entry was probably due to Tucker striking out on one or more guys in the South that he wanted to swing at first, and when those plans didn't work out, he scrambled to keep Toler in the mix.

2. Yes, I understand coaching staffs have their own ratings that don't always match up to the recruiting sites, and I believe Tucker probably wanted a few other guys who he had been recruiting the past few years (see item 1).

As I stated, MT gets the BOTD until proven otherwise. I'm just saying that Safety is arguably the thinnest and least talented position on the team, and losing a legacy recruit like Toler to a currently much better program like Wisconsin doesn't look good at all, especially when he actually did go out there in an attempt to keep him with CU (according to the article published nationally).

Official 5’11.5 and 180 lbs is a bit undersized for a safety, so maybe Tucker was looking for a player with more prototypical size.
