2019 NCAA Tournament Thread

Zags got it to their pace, but TTU stayed right with them. This is going to be a fun 2nd half.

Gonzaga is more talented. But I just love the way Texas Tech plays. Chris Beard is a tremendous coach. Not that Few doesn’t do a great job also. This is a great game.

I think the talent is pretty even. I think the Zags have better shooters, but TTU has more length & athleticism on the interior. Both have a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft.

Probably splitting hairs, but I think Clark and Hachimura are better than Culver. It’s not a wide margin, but Gonzaga has more talent imo.

That blocked shot is the single best play of the tournament. Wow.

I couldn't believe he got there to challenge, let alone block it and save to a teammate. Holy ****. What an athlete.

(Even if he was way out of bounds on the recovery and the refs ****ed up bigly.)

Their intensity and discipline is indeed fun to watch, not unlike UVA. So many people think these 2 teams are boring but I enjoy watching them more than the high-scoring teams.

Yea that was an incredible play by Owens. However they just showed he was out of bounds. Oops

Thought about this game: I hope the people who bitch about scoring droughts all the time on this board watched this game. Gonzaga is one of the best teams in the country and had some massive scoring droughts in this game. It’s because TT is elite defensively, but that’s college basketball. Everybody in the country has scoring droughts.

We've got another game of contrasting styles with Purdue vs Virginia. Pace difference is even more dramatic in this on. Boilermakers would love to see the score in the 80s while UVA is hoping for the 50s.

Can't wait.

I'm never surprised when Gonzaga inevitably loses before reaching the Final 4 except once. This year's team had another great record against the same weak competition but against upper tier teams they went 1-2.

Eh, that’s a great Gonzaga team. Just played another great team. That’s what happens after the first weekend of the tournament.

I don't cheer for Gonzaga, but I think they had a very worthy team this season that could have very well won it all. I think where they struggle is with physical teams that have just spent 2 months mostly playing other physical teams. That's just hard to overcome. They've gotten better over the years on the interior, but I still think it comes down to their offense needing to be firing on all cylinders for them to beat top teams. Smaller margin for error than the big conference powers, which can survive a poor shooting night and still win against good teams in the tournament.

Losing to St. Mary's in the WCC tournament was telling. I had them bowing out to FSU last round so I'm not surprised they lost. They have the tools but aren't battle tested like other teams.

That's exactly what I had in my bracket. I thought FSU's defense would give them fits but the Zags were on fire in that one and dominated the guard play.

Purdue came out on fire.

I think I picked them out of the tourney early. All the talking heads kept saying all season that they were the team to watch in the B1G and were a potential 1-seed. But I never saw them put it together and didn't trust them at all.

They remind me of that year UConn won it when Kemba put them on his back and they got hot at the right time.

So ... we don't light up the backboards anymore on shot clock violations? When did that happen ... and why?
