*OFFICIAL* Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime is the new CU Football Head Coach thread

They have to talk Broncos because that's what rates and that's what keeps the station running, so I don't blame them. However, the unintended consequence of all broncos, all the time, is that they have guys like Schlereth, DMac, Evan, now Derek Wolfe, Brandon Stokley, Orlando Franklin, etc who can talk Broncos and NFL with the best of them, but don't have a clue about College Football

Is Derek Wolfe back in Denver doing radio now?

Neuweasel just called coach Prime a hypocrite for telling his players at JSU not to bail in the portal and then telling the CU players to kick rocks in the portal.
He didn't say it exactly that way. He said, don't enter the portal and die there when you got a good opportunity here whereas at Colorado, they don't have no opportunity on the roster.

What a moron. There is such a difference between most of the JSU players who aren't getting a shot anywhere else and Colorado players who should probably be playing for a JSU level program.
Those players would get a shot but it would be at a lower level, likely without a scholarship when they could have been fighting for a Starting job next year. Whereas, Colorado players have G5 and FCS opportunities with full scholarships. They have a lot more options

Here's a legitimate question - why leave CU for a mid-level SEC school?

We have the facilities.
We have the support of the University (finally).
We have the NIL money and allegedly more incoming.

And Prime is going to bring the attention and spotlight wherever he goes.

Plus, we have no meddling boosters and people with unrealistic expectations. Prime's going to be loved here.

More importantly, we have a 12 team playoff, automatic berth for winning the conference, and no USC or UCLA.

Compare that to Auburn or Mississippi State or even Florida or A&M. You can get some of the above, but not all, plus meddling boosters and a huge ****ing wall between you and the playoff called Alabama, LSU, and Georgia.

Geography still plays a large role in recruiting. Closer to home is still a big inherent advantage for SEC schools.

Yes, he replaced Polumbus on The Drive with DMac. He's not very good, although he does have some good stories about his time in the league and provides decent insight into what goes on in the lockerroom, at practice, etc.
Well, I don't think I am in the minority when I say that Wolfe never really was my #1 candidate to be pursuing a PhD and that it probably was good for all involved that football worked out for him.

What a silly take.

He was addressing a 1-11 roster with a lot of kids that honestly don't belong on a P5 roster. Did Skippy actually watch any of CU's conference games?

More than that though, I took most of his address to the team to mean, "make your choice now, before I get back - you're going to work your ass off and earn your spot, or your spot's not going to be here".

The SEC is in bed with ESPN, CU is in a conference with an unclear future and no clear cut established future media partner like FOX or ESPN atm.

If some of those CU players show heart and give their blood sweat and tears to try and stay on the team then they might have a shot. That is what Coach Prime is looking for. Nothing less! Maybe Nebraska will take some of them!

You mean like when Rick told the team he'd see them back in Boulder after the holiday break, and then ghosted the program? Also, KD is one of Rick's best friends....that is all we need to know to explain this commentary.

Most importantly, an 8-win season here and you will get a parade. An 8-win season at Auburn, Miss. St., etc. will get you a burning cross in your front yard.

Anybody who has a problem with what Prime told the current players hasn't watched CU play since at least the COVID year.

Deion in Boulder might be good for them. People are looking for different ways to spend the time and money they have for entertainment/fun on something other than a ****ty NFL team in this town. CU's now competition that the Nuggets and Avs aren't because of the silly Altitude-Comcast issue.

Him being given the job to follow Mac was the first step in the culture change at CU. He turned us into a program than went on rafting trips and had singalongs while he strummed on his guitar. There's a reason holdovers from the Mac team wanted to kill him. Which player was it who put Ricky up against the wall in the locker room and threatened him?

See to me, those things are competitive irrelevant as long as Prime is here. The moment he leaves, we're ****ed again in that regard. But with Prime, TV will find us, the spotlight will find us, and honestly, if he stays long enough, our conference situation will resolve itself one way or another.

If your goal is to win championships, get to the playoffs, and win nattys, going to the SEC is a poor move, unless you're going to one of the big 3.

There's no reason to be fretting about him leaving yet anyway, but when the time comes for teams to come sniffing, I'm much more worried about the ACC than the SEC. Hopefully it comes down to not wanting to work for a rival of FSU's, and FSU being happy with the coach they have.

team meeting now. people start connecting and we're exchanging "happy Monday's" and what not, during a lull I say, "just a warning that if anyone schedules a meeting with me in the next week, we're going to end up talking about Deion Sanders and Colorado football"

my new boss asks "you think he's going to turn it around" and the first five minutes of the meeting was lost to CU football talk.

Naeole

Also, I would bet that any player who has put in extra work (film study, early to practice, living in the training facility, eating right, not getting in trouble) and goes to coaches to ask what he can do - then does it...

Well, that guy is probably still going to have a home at CU unless he's physically incapable of performing at this level. And for those guys who simply can't but have everything you want in your locker room, coaches go the extra mile to help them find a great program fit for them.

Most of the things that drive CFB coaches to seek other opportunities don't really apply to him, IMO. He's going to recruit top 10 classes and have the money and resources that he needs wherever he goes.

For him, it feels like having full autonomy is a much bigger deal. Not being beholden to a large, good ol boy booster network. Challenging and disrupting the CFB apple cart.

I value proven facts over speculation about what may or may not happen. And the fact is that the Pac 12 at the moment has no media partner from 2025 onwards and that it is in a generally perilous situation as it is losing two of its most valuable programs.

I suspect he is gone as soon as CU tries to do CU ****. Let him run the program, give him what he needs, and we are off to the races. I dont think you will get the I need more money like Mel, but start messing with transfers again, or hold the football program to unrealistic scholastic expectations, he is gone.

Or as soon as his kids graduate...

RG on 92.5...

Re Prime eventually leaving (paraphrasing)... "We've certainly thought through that... I believe if he has the resources he needs and we do the things we have to do to give him the opportunity to be successful, he's not going anywhere, and that's exactly what we're going to do"

Re Money... "Didn't have the money and booster support going into the search". "People were writing checks during the press conference". "We think we'll sell out and that's upwards of $10m"

His choice of words stunk. he basically told those guys "you're not wanted, hit the road". Not the way to treat a Buff.
Use some words DS: "you'll each meet with an ass't coach and your situation will be reviewed, etc"
Leave them with some dignity.

only thing that I haven't liked so far.
