'12 CA TE Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (Signed to USC)

Damn. Well, he's a good looking player and will have his choice of opportunities. Hope the coaches (EB/EMBO/BROOKHART) can lock this kid down. Whitney is right down the road from me (5min?) so i'll plan on catching him and Jake Rodriguez' game or two this year.

When you are as good as this kid is you can afford to take your time and look at all your options. I think that considering where we have been the past few years it is a tribute to the new coaching staff that we are getting looked at by kids with the options this guy has. Shows that what Embree and EB are doing has enough credibility to get the attention of quality players. Now we just need to show improvement on the field and interest will start turning into more commits.

I hope that he decides that his best option is to be a Buff.

A great tight end can be the difference between an average offense and a nearly unstoppable offense. College defenses are not set up to defend the TE. Whoever gets this guy is going to be a force if they use him to his potential.

I'm sure our coaches have impressed on him how important he will be in OUR offense. I hope that and early PT will get him onboard.

There's a pretty positive story on buffscoop by AZ, makes it seem like we're the leader. fwiw AZ thinks it's going to be us or Cal. JCF also might be waiting for a USC offer.

Cope-Fitzpatrick also had the opportunity to meet a few other recruits while on his trip. "I met that tight end they had in from Washington (Caleb Smith). I think him and I could make a pretty solid duo up there. We would make a good core for them at tight end."

Damn I hope he changes his mind, this was one of the guys I wished to get the most. Freakin Buffnik, u need to disappear for awhile. Lol jk.

Disapointing, but the likes of Slavin and Thornton are still young TE, TE is not a major need for CU at this time.

I've got to disagree with you on the 2nd part there. We're running a lot of 2 TE sets in the new offense. If we don't have 4 TEs on the roster we can count on, it limits us. Getting 2 or 3 quality TEs is very important for this recruiting class.

How much does USC utilize the TE? Just wondering if it's a case of "It's USC blah blah blah" or if they actually showcase the TE.

Pro style offense and their TEs have been getting drafted. I wouldn't say the position is featured, though.

This season- We have Deehan, Slavin, Thornton, Alex Wood,

We can still add one or two TE in the 2012 class

I am not too woried about the TE position, i am more worried about WR, OL, CB, DL,RB

USC has a lot of TE on their roster too, and most are underclassmen.

This is one of the dumbest things i've seen on here. Our offense will promenetly feature the TE position, we only have two returning scholarship TE's after this year, and those two TE's were both unheralded recruits who have combined for 1 catch in their college careers. How exactly is TE not a major recruting need?

That's 2 scholarship TEs heading into the 2012 season, neither of which have made a play as a Buff. You need to be worried.

It's stats like this which is going to make me feel slightly better about the situation with Cope. Our coaches can tell him all day about the depth chart and how this shows he'll be lucky to be playing by his junior year. Rather he could come to CU and start as a Frosh for the Buffs. It will make a big deal in the end.

Not worried, i have seen Thornton and Slavin play in spring ball, they are going to be good. Mccolough(sp) can make the transition to TE. Alex Wood is also on the roster for 2012. Worst case scenario we can get some JUCO or transfers in to fill in the void.
