2018: Recruiting News, Notes & Official Visitors

From link to article in below tweet, looks like the Buffs are one of many interested (but no CU offer yet) in speedy 2018 running back Jawhar Jordan Jr..

As the football phrase goes – speed kills, and that is exactly what Jawhar Jordan Jr. has been doing against Arizona competition over the past two seasons, killing teams with his speed. The Hamilton High School star is now finally turning into a national star on the recruiting trail thanks to a “fastest man competition” at the Los Angeles Nike Opening Regional that blew everyone away.

The journey for Jordan really started to take off during the 2015 season when he helped the Huskies to a 10-2 record. Getting time in a rotation with upperclassmen, Jordan took 90 carries for 458 yards with four scores and pulled in nine passes for 114 yards with three more trips to the end zone. The budding playmaking abilities were there as a sophomore but few could argue with the results in 2016. In 12 games played, Jordan burned through 175 totes for 1,269 yards with 17 touchdowns. The all-purpose back notion was further cemented with 14 passes secured for 135 yards with another score.

The tape does not lie on Jordan. Get the 5-11, 168 pound, speedster in space and watch him make the best of the best look foolish – even if a defensive back has an angle. Adding special teams to his mix of talents, Jordan returned 11 kicks for 298 yards with one back breaking touchdown scored and took four punts back for 90 yards with another momentum shifting trip to the end zone.

College coaches were slow getting to Jordan, but have been recovering quickly identifying his talents. To date 10 schools have offered with Arizona, Iowa State, UNLV, Idaho, Hawaii, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Kansas State, Missouri, and Oklahoma State wanting him on their roster next year. The offer sheet could easily push over 20 for the Chandler area native with USC, Oregon, Colorado, Rutgers, and Washington, among others, all showing varying levels of interest.

In a Recruiting News Guru featured interview, I sat down with the Arizona talent that blazed a 4.37 40-yard dash at the LA Nike Opening Regional to cover his breakout junior season, off-season workouts, and crazy recruiting process since showing the world just how fast he truly is.

Not sure that this belongs ITT but it looks like we had some SMU football staff on campus for a tour today.

Scott will be a junior with 2 years to play 2 after a JUCO semester. He never really saw the field at USC and then ran into academic difficulty. Javier Edwards is connected on twitter, so maybe this is a JC transfer the Buffs will look at at for the need at DT.

Those in and around Boulder have dubbed Colorado’s upswing as “The Rise,” and Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre is aware that for the trajectory to continue, he and his staff will have to continue extending their reach beyond their own state’s borders.

The Buffaloes managed to flip freshman offensive tackle Jake Moretti, one of the top recruits in Colorado the last few years, from his early commitment to Ohio State and currently hold pledges from three of the top six recruits in the state for the 2018 class, but MacIntyre admits that approach alone won’t be enough.

“Our state is awesome, but it’s just not well populated,” McIntyre told Scout.com. “Population drives players. We’re always going to recruit California hard. We’re always going to recruit Texas hard, the Phoenix, Arizona area, and, of course, Colorado. And then we’ll mix and match the rest with connections and that type of thing. But the thing that does happen now is you get a few others from outside those areas calling you saying, ‘Hey, I’m interested.’ That helps to get a guy or two every year.”

Colorado, which sits at No. 43 nationally and No. 5 in the Pac-12 recruiting rankings, received a major boost last weekend when Santa Fe Springs (Calif.) Santa Fe four-star receiver Dylan Thomas announced his commitment.

@Duff Man - I assume this geographic focus is music to your ears. Definitely is for me. As far as I'm concerned, the Buffs could never leave CA, TX, CO and AZ other than JUCO and direct relationships/ special circumstances.

San Diego (Calif.) Mt. Carmel outside linebacker Andrew Mataafa was one of the top linebackers we saw during the spring camp circuit.
But an injury at USC's Rising Stars Camp to his knee put a damper on his spring and cost him his senior year.

Colorado was mentioned as a school staying in contact, but we haven't offered yet. Worth keeping an eye on his recruitment.

I don't want to overload on specialists, but what do you guys think of recruiting a punter this cycle? Kinney is a junior, so if we got a punter this year, the new guy would be starting as a sophomore, as opposed to having to roll out a freshman after Kinney graduates. Of course, we could just hope that a walk-on makes the grade, but that does leave something to chance. Thoughts?
