Cody's stats last season... not bad

http://www.indenvertimes.com/2009/04/03/givens-muscles-into-mix-for-buffs-o-line/

In the Buffs’ early spring work, the No. 1 line has consisted of Givens and Miller on the right side, Mike Iltis at center, Nate Solder at left tackle, and Matt Bahr and Sione Tau alternating at left guard.

Players either sidelined or whose participation is limited due to injury include Devin Head, Shawn Daniels and Blake Behrens.

Like Givens, Ryan Dannewitz spent most of his freshman season on a weight-gaining mission and now is up to 290 pounds. Johnson hopes to assess him at guard and give more scrutiny at center to Keenan Stevens, whom Johnson calls a “pleasant surprise.’’

How many JUCO WRs, in all of college football, can you think of off the top of your head that came in and had an immediate, significant impact in his first year?

Here's how the WRs that ranked in the top JUCO top 100 fared in 2008:

2. Carl Moore (Florida)-14 catches, 184 yards, 1 TD
9. Correy Surrency (Florida State)-12 catches, 237 yards, 4 TDs
20. Aubrey Quarles (Kansas State)-34 catches, 407 yards, 1 TD
36. Freddie Parham (Southern Miss)-19 catches, 173 yards
43. Adrian Hilburn (Kansas State)-N/A
56. Rod Harris (Kansas)-N/A
57. Verran Tucker (Cal)-21 catches, 362 yards, 4 TDs
62. Brandon Banks (Kansas State)-67 catches, 1,049 yards, 9 TDs
87. O.J. Murdock (Marshall)-N/A

Define an immediate impact. 1000 yards? 900 yards? Given our offensive woes last year if a JUCO came in and had 350 yards I'd be happy.

Expecting Andre Simmons to come in and be a star is perhaps unrealistic. But expecting him to come in and give us depth and produce a little out of the four wide sets seems reasonable.

Its going to be nice this year, where we only have to have reasonable luck to have a chance to make a lot of noise, whereas the last couple of years we had to drink a lot of kool-aid to hope for 10 wins. Now we only have to sip. Knock on wood.

I'm not expecting him to be a star. I just want to see as much talent on the field as possible. Having Simas, Smith, and Simmons all available will be a huge boost to our passing game.
