Mel Tucker leaves CU for Michigan State

So who is on the short list? I'm just spit-balling.

Bienemy, Chev, Matt Campbell, Venebles, Peterson, Urban...

Leavitt, Logan, Shanahan :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Here are buyouts for two other schools in the conference as a reference point:

WSU:$8M if in Yr 1, $6M in Yr 2, $5M in Yr 3, $2M in Yr 4, $1M after

Zona:$10 million if he leaves in year 1 or two, $5 million in year 3, $3 million in year 4, $1 million in year 5

UCLA: flat $9 million for the life of the contract

Everyone is comparing this to when Neuheisal left.....it is SO much worse. This won't be a popular factoid, but Rick wanted to stay at CU, but was told to leave by Tharp.

The exact opposite happened here.
Uh, Ellen left in the middle of recruiting. That was much worse.

LOL. Okay. You're ignoring that he was told to leave by the AD, and I would rather a coach leave then, than after the entire coaching pool had been sifted through leaving us with table scraps.

When Rick left we had Kubiak in the bag, and had to settle for the previous NCOY in Barnett

Yes, not saying that didn’t happen but I was much closer to the program then and never heard anything like that.
You probably wouldn't have. Tharp didn't Like Neuheisal at the time because of his inconsistent performance relative to Mac, and several Boosters didn't like Rick. When presented with an opportunity to let Rick go or keep him, Tharp told Rick to not let the door to hit him on the way out. It's a big reason why He said the things he did at his intro presser at UW

Question, are these amounts the same if he was fired? If so, the lower amounts for Tucker makes a bit more sense as the school probably couldn't afford higher buyouts given HCMM.

No. If the school fires a coach, they typically owe the remainder of his salary offset by the salary at his next job.

clayton, Harris, rice and alfano were my 3 worries. Thank god he’s staying.

He called MSU a once in a lifetime opportunity. Just recycling introduction speeches again I see. Now say that MSU is a destination job, not a stepping stone job.
