Hopefully somebody in Dal Ward reads this
Take a deep breath and think for a moment how hard it is to win at Air Force. Calhoun should be in our top 5.Has Calhoun ever won his conference? Has he ever finished in the top 2 of his conference?
Calhoun had a pretty decent rookie debut - but since then, what has he done? He beat Notre Dame his rookie year, but he's never won a game against a team from a BCS conference.
I guess if your opponents are going to be CSU, Southern Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Army, and UNLV - he's a great coach. Otherwise, he's never really done anything.

I guess a better question would be, if he is such a catch or hot commodity, why is he at Air Force? I'm sure he is a good game day coach, but we also need a great recruiter....lets not forget, it all starts with recruiting. You can coach the hell out of scrubs and still lose.
Slade's just pissed that Air Force almost won in Norman this year.
he turned DOWN tennessee last year.

You're right.
Calhoun never has to worry about players being academically ineligible.
Calhoun never has to worry about his players getting in trouble with the law.
Calhoun never has to worry about his players transferring to other schools, or getting home sick, etc.
Calhoun never has to play any BCS teams.
It must be TERRIBLY hard to win at Air Force. Certainly much much much much MUCH harder than coaching at Colorado.

Um, yeah. Name another school where all the kids are walk ons chosen by someone other than the coach?
Can't wait to watch Troy Calhoun be a head coach at a BCS conference school. I enjoy watching coaches learn on the job, it usually goes pretty well.
But yeah, what could be hard about that???
You're right BB. Calhoun needs to go be a RB coach until he's ready for a BCS level HC job...
There's nothing hard about playing a bunch of scrub WAC / MWC teams - that's one of the reasons why Calhoun's record is as good as it is. All this hard-on for a coach who hasn't ever even finished 2nd in his own conference boggles my mind.
Maybe CU should go after George O'Leary from UCF. He is leading his division in Conference USA and he has BCS head coaching experience. Or maybe the head coach at Temple - they are currently leading their division in the MAC. Hawaii's is currently 2nd in it's conference - maybe CU should go after their head coach?
There are plenty of really good coaches out there. No reason to settle for a guy who isn't a proven winner just because he's coaching at Air Farce.
It's always best to consider travel costs when conducting a coaching search. Luckily, all Bohn has to do is hop on 36 until it reaches I-25, and then it is straight shot down to the Springs. Less than a tank of gas and we have our coach.
I'll take our I-25 hires under Bohn over our national searches. Going national happened with 2 hires and yielded Kathy McConnell-Miller plus Dan Hawkins.
A national search of a former Buff and the HC at Boise State is another way to cut down on travel costs. Most schools interpret "national" to mean across the country. But luckily, we think of it a bit differently at CU.
