******Official RMS Game Thread******

Quitting before the whistle is on Hobo and how he coaches his team, not the refs. Tucker preaches “play to the echo of the whistle.”

Funny thing is .. while the on-field refs were from the Pac 12, I believe the replay refs were from the MWC, and they upheld the fumble call. Of course that's not mentioned in the article.

I was impressed with how physical the CB group played, they are not shy about hitting and hitting hard. The DL and LB play left me appreciating whole DB group in this game.
Right, CB is weak depth and scheme-wise for the moment, but at least those guys arent afraid to come up and make a tackle, especially considering that they are small weight-wise.

I’m quite pleased. The o line played well after a rocky second series. I thought Montez played pretty well, he made good decisions and stopped throwing off his back foot as the game went on (funny how not getting drilled in the ribs every throw will affect a qb), the running backs ran downhill and finished. The playcalling was vanilla but they still spread the ball around and didn't rely on gimmicks. Montez threw a few balls a beat late, which got receivers hit. Thats a concern.

The defense only blitzed twice all game and the I didnt see the pass rush specialists much if at all. I expect that to change radically next week. The secondary seemed to improve as the game went on, but those blown coverages were ugly. We need to get upfield against nebraska.

The kicking game looked good. Coverage a little less so.

I was thrilled with how the offense used the te’s, and how the players took advantage of getting throws.

i'm going to be "that guy" for a minute and suggest that perhaps it will be ok. he had a really rocky first half. some bad reads and poor throws, etc. but, he did rally and play better as the game went on. he's in, what, his 4th offense in 5 years or something? i think he needed to get settled in and feel comfortable.

what we saw last night, as a body of work, was who montez has been for us-- he's a guy that can make every throw and look like a first rounder. and he's also a guy who sometimes has a hard time seeing the checks, or making the right throw, and who sometimes is over-amped. a good running game and a game plan that includes the tight ends can help him.
Sure, but that's no excuse for obviously poor fundamentals as to his mechanics and decision making. Someone please get him to stop throwing off his back foot and off balance with the nearest defender still 3 yards away from him and a lineman still defending him. Stand and deliver, man! It's not like he's setting up screen plays.

It’s so frustrating. He will have a wide open guy and under/over throw him and it makes me want to throw ****. This isn’t little league, just throw the ball to him, it’s not that ****ing hard! He knows how, I don’t see why he makes it more difficult than it is.

and before i leave this thread and focus on a game that actually matters against an opponent i hate, i would like to wish bobo a fond farewell. his mad clown coaching skills will be missed.

adieu, sweet bobo.

Why would you say that? They would owe him a boat load of money that they don’t have to fire him.

Given what I saw last night, they’re a bowl team out of the MWC. That keeps him around.

Wells and Falo had THREE tackles. They, especially Wells, are going to have a tough time watching this film.

The edge is a serious issue.

The two inside LB’s were awful too. They were supposedly playing because they knew the defense, clearly they do not. The LB squad needs a massive upgrade in athletic ability in 3 of the 4 spots. Tucker get’s it, they are recruiting OLB’s in quantities this class like LSU recruits DT’s.

Agree. Three spots are a big mess. Honestly, so is Star with Taylor.

I was a little surprised we didn’t see Allen inside.

The biggest takeaway from last night is that Mel Tucker can coaches discipled team which is huge. The defense improved in the second half, but they still need to work on getting to the quarterback and secondary play. The staff has a ton of work to do to prepare for Nebraska however for the first time since Barnett the staff should be up to the task.

Even Landman looks like a liability on passing plays. He is an old school MLB that is great when the DL free him up to make plays against the run.

We were all saying LB’s were stacked on this roster earlier this summer. After 1 game they were the worst unit next to the CB’s. Wonder what the odds are that Ham gets significant time.

I think this quote by Tucker is most telling and addresses some of the questions and concerns being asked here;
"We’re going to make our most improvement from the first game to the second game. I have a really good idea right now of where we are as a team, but it’s a starting point."

No one is saying he isn’t a good athlete. Most people are saying he isn’t the athlete that Allen is.
