Spencer Dinwiddie - NBA PG (BKN Nets)

I was curious so I thought I'd update the numbers. Interestingly they have stayed the same or gotten better in most cases. I expected a drop given a bigger sample size and more film on him for defenses. I've also added VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) - think WAR for baseball. I added age to the tables below because I thought it was interesting considering he is still coming into his NBA prime.

Assist to Turnover Ratio - 2nd in NBA (2nd PG)
Turnover Ratio - 24th in NBA (4th PG)
Assists/48 min - 5th in NBA (4th PG)
Real Plus Minus - 15th in NBA (6th PG)
PER - 74th in NBA (15th PG)
Win Shares - 44th in NBA (9th PG)
VORP - 49th in NBA (10th NBA

RPM, PER, Win Shares, and VORP are stats that try to measure the all around game and impact of a player. The 4 point guards surrounding Dinwiddie in each category and their 2017 salaries:

Worth looking at all this within the context of Spencer playing on a team that isn't very good. While this leads to him getting more minutes and shots it hurts him in a lot of the ratio stats. Defenses can key on him more and he doesn't have a lot of teammates who are great finishers to pump up his assist numbers.

Being as good as he is on a team that is otherwise fairly weak highlights just how good he has been.

Brooklyn isn't a brand name or a good team but still a good team for him to play for
But could be very quickly. Brooklyn would be our 3rd largest city if it separated from NYC. Always the forgotten stepchild, though. Even all those years the franchise was in NJ, most folks in NJ either cheered for the Knicks or Sixers.

Many a career has been made or derailed by the team(s) played for.
Jordan Bell is a good player but would he be the same on Chicago.
Spencer on Spurs might have him playing behind Parker/Mills.
He is taking advantage of his opportunity (Lin/DLo both hurt)

I don't think he'd play behind Parker very long, dude doesn't have very much left in the tank from what ive seen. Mills plays point some for them but he isn't one imho. I think SA would be perfect but he isn't in a bad situation right now.

Point position is not as important to Spurs.
They have Kyle Anderson and Kawhi Leonard and Ginobili to handle the ball.
Not saying that Spencer couldnt contribute as a Spur but Nets are a good fit and chance to play.
Jarrett Allen is playing consistent for them and will continue to improve. Thats 2/5 spots in lineup already taken care of.

This is a bigger factor than most people want to admit. How long did it take Chauncey to find a spot where he could thrive. He went from third pick in the draft to being essentially a throw in player in multiple trades. He finally ended up in Minnesota behind Terrell Brandon until Brandon got hurt and Chauncey took advantage of the opportunity to shine.

Some teams draft talented player after talented player and almost all seem to fail while other teams always seem to be finding talent others overlook.

Spencer took some time to find his spot but it's pretty secure now that he won't be going back to the bench.

There was a photo on Instagram at the gender reveal party and their Christmas card is adorable.

Happy for Spencer, but he needs to let someone else shoot the game winners, that destroyed my timeline ;)

If they want to keep him, they better be working on a big fat extension instead of forcing him to play out that contract.

I don't think they are allowed to guarantee the deal for next year until next year... unless of course they signed him to an extension.

I believe this is correct. You can't guarantee next year's deal until next season.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored a career-high 31 points in Monday's 114-113 overtime loss to the Raptors, hitting 10-of-24 shots and 8-of-9 free throws with eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and three triples in 42 minutes.
Damned missed free throw cost ‘em a chance to win!
