Honestly, can Embree survive this season?

Why is it so obvious that Embree gets a third year? I have a massive disconnect with that notion. I'm not buying it. Is the reasoning due to the perceived ambiavalance of the administration, specifically DiStephano? Is the only reason we'd keep Embree because DiStephano simply doesn't give a damn about the football program?

ITS 1.5 YEARS INTO A REBUILDING PROGRAM!!!!!!!!! Not one person connected to CU that understands football ever thought we would be turned around in essentially one recruiting cycle. Come on people get some perspective. He will be given 3-4 year because that is what it takes to get talent infusions and move any direction. Yes this year is frustrating but come on calling for a coaches job after a year and a half? Who the hell is gonna come to CU if we have a rep for firing coaches who can't turn a program in less than 2 years (with one recruiting cycle with your full staff)? No one will take that job. If we fire embree we are setting ourselves back another 3-4 years. JE may not be the answer but we must give him another recruiting cycle and another year to see if it starts to change. Fire him now we might as well disband the program and start totally fresh in 4 years.

Dude, seriously. "No one will take that job"? Really? Get a grip. There will be no shortage of candidates who think they can turn this thing around and will gladly do so for $2MM+ per year.

Unfortunately, it appears more like 1.5 years of BURYING a program.

Nobody expected to see this thing turned around this year. But nobody expected record-level beatdowns each week either. Fans aren't known to be realistic in their expectations, but I don't think it's out-of-line to be outraged by the status-quo--even when the broader context is considered.

You say we start over if we find a new coach at the end of this season. I'd say, we go a year deeper in the hole if we don't. How can Embree recruit after a season like this? It gets deeper if our leadership doesn't demonstrate they're serious now.

If Embree turns it around, it will be with the current roster. Let's all admit the 2013 class will not be up to par and the 2014 class will start slow as well. Expecting recruiting to magically get better in the near future is just stupid. So let's hear why this roster gets much better next season.

I would completely agree with you had Embo not gotten beaten by three inferior teams in a row to start off the campaign. Had he taken two out of the first three, I would believe he was just dealing with manpower issues.

Fact is, first year McIlwain takes a far less talented team in his first year and beat CU. First year OC at a D1aa school with a walk on QB comes in and beats CU AT HOME. A Fresno team that so underperformed last year their previously successful HC was fired, gets a new HC, new offensive and defensive systems and take that mid-level MWC talent to absolutely destroy the Buffs. What was it 35-0 at the half?

Three chances to prepare your team against lesser talent and three consecutive losses, one of them the kind of ***whipping usually reserved for Florida State vs. Jacksonville St.

CSU hasn't won a game since the Rocky Mtn. Slowdown, Sac. St. isn't even FBS, Fresno is looking like a middle of the pack MWC team. Give me a break. CU is getting DESTROYED. Seven games in and the opponent AVERAGES 42 points a game. CU averages 18. CU has given up 50+ 3 times out of seven. First year coaches are mopping the floor with Embo's squad (CSU, Fresno, ASU) and he and his staff clearly have no answers.

I thought the bowl game talk was way premature when I heard it at the recruiting luncheon. I thought 4-5 W's were probably the best realistic estimate. This staff is plumbing new depths of getting outcoached and setting new lows. UMass, playing their first year of FBS ball is giving up less points. CU is what 119th or so in defense? Sorry, I have seen enough. Start over. KU did it when Turner Gill stunk up the place and landed Fat Charlie. I am no Fat Charlie fan, but it isn't like they couldn't get a "name" candidate, so don't tell me CU couldn't get a good HC if they opened the checkbook.

121st last I checked

121st last I checked

After this past weekend's games, Colorado is:

112th in total defense (yards given up) (last in Pac 12) [Baylor is #120]
119th in scoring defense (last in Pac 12) [Baylor is #120]

102nd in total offense (yards gained) (11th in Pac 12) [Washington is #103; CSU is #104]
110th in scoring offense (points scored) (last in Pac 12) [CSU is tied with Auburn for #118]

Thanks.

I think I checked soon after the game but damn, how anyone can look at those numbers and say Embree and Co shouldn't be gone is confusing

The lack of talent/youth excuse holds water when you lose to teams that are obviously more talented and experienced. Nobody expected to beat USC. Where that argument falls flat on it's face is when you lose to CSU, Sacramento State and Fresno. Sorry, we should be better than those teams. We made Fresno look like USC. This is beyond pathetic, it's catastrophic.

Lets not forget we barely won the one game we won.

We would have been better off with Mac as HC to mentor these guys for a couple of years. Instead, were paying them to learn on the job. Im really pretty convinced the behind the scenes interference to get 'Mac back in', 'Get Embree here', and or 'Get Bienemy here', along with the various associated political back lashes, ultimately undermined any chance we had at a post Hawkins turnaround. I dont know where Bohn, Benson, the boosters, or DiStefano, or the faculty played their part on each of these but it sure looks funny from the outside.

It was a fine experiment. But for the reasons above it needs to end.

It's not that we haven't turned things around, it's that we aren't even competing. Our ridiculously low level goal of just competing isn't even being met. We're literally getting blown out of the stadium before halftime every week. It's not too much to ask that we don't let that happen.. Nobody is saying we should be beating USC or Oregon, or hell, even ASU or UCLA, but it'd be nice to think, "hey, we have a chance this week."

To be fair for the upcoming game, you can count on one hand the number of teams that would compete with Oregon at home.

Oregon has played a few home games already this season.

Oregon beat Arkansas State 57-34
(Do you think the Buffs will score 34 points?)

Oregon beat Fresno State 42-25.
(Fresno State beat Colorado 69-14)

Oregon beat Tennessee Tech 63-14.
(Honestly, I think this will probably be close to the CU/Oregon score)

Oregon beat Arizona 49-0.
(Another score that will probably be close to the CU/Oregon score)

Oregon beat Washington 52-21.
(Again, do you think the Buffs will score 21 points?)

So how long of a list of teams that could challenge mighty Sac. St. at their home field?

Embree will survive the season, but I wouldn't say that for everyone.

I expected the offense to struggle this year. P Rich out, Tyler, Clemons and Speedy gone.

Maybe i'm too harsh, but I wasn't expecting a lame duck at QB. I was hoping Connor would be better and take the reigns. That didn't happen. As we can see, and KU has seen, J Webb is not the answer.

I also expected to give up A LOT of points this year, but the way we've been giving them up is the problem with me. 2,3,4 play drives going for 80-90 yards!?!?!?! Un-*****-acceptable.

Do I still believe that the Buffs are out-talented and inexperienced right now, yes... but I agree now that there are several fundamental flaws with the staff that translate on the field.

For instance: My High School Defensive Coach told me back in 1990 that, "if you can't keep the Offense in front of you, then I shouldn't be coaching you."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Embree better make some changes because the petty freaking basics of Football is being lost by his group of players and by his coaches.

If you've seen any of my posts, I'm for giving Embree another year or two to right this ship. ***BUT*** If Embree doesn't evaluate his coaches and make some changes at the end of the year the hammer must come down on everyone!!!

I'm sliding off the boat with no freaking life jacket. The only reason I was giving Embree two years is because, more than likely, a freshman will be our QB next year.

IMO:

- The Defensive staff needs to be overhauled and a new attitude brought in.
- Bienemy gets a pass cause he sure doesn't have many weapons to work with.
- Spruce, Crawley and Wright will be playing on Sunday in 4 years.

Bieniemy is the only assistant coach on a multi-year contract.

I would demote him to RB coach / Co-Offensive coordinator in charge of running game.

They could fire every other coach on the staff for all I care.

Why does Bieniemy get a pass for low talent level on offense? He was brought in to help raise the talent level.

I guess I don't see the low level of talent. Webb sucks, and the O line is suspect, but talent wise the RBs, WRs and TEs are pretty good...IMO. It's planning and execution, not talent. We have enough to make the games competitive if coached competently.

Maybe wishful thinking hoping the next coaching staff could come in and make an immediate impact, like what Paul Rhodes did at Iowa State.

90, the talent at the skill positions is average at best. Complete lack of speed/playmaking ability.

Agree with your reasoning Slade.

Spruce, McCulloch, Thomas, and Ebner are just making other defense stay up at night...

QB is god awful. OL has improved but still isn't good, TE's when they are involved make plays and Kasa and Hobbs are bright spots (more so Kasa right now but Hobbs has tons of potential). RB's have been hit or miss with more misses.

I could agree with that assessment, unless you aren't joking about the WRs
