'10 CO DE Chris Martin (Signed to California)

Give me an example of someone who went that route and starred at CU, then I might buy your argument a bit more. Getting into Auburn is not the same thing as transferring to CU, but you know that already (or at least you should).

Could you clarify this, I dont understand what your point is.

We've had some good JUCOs at CU. Bedell went to Mt. SAC and, iirc, Chris Brown went to a Kansas JUCO.

But it's so difficult to make that work at CU that it's almost not worth the trouble of recruiting them.

Brown was a little different situation than most in that he qualified out of HS and did very well at Northwestern, a school that isn't likely to be questioned by CU admissions. He spent one year at a JC transitioning after Barnett left Northwestern and his intention was always to return to an upper level school so he made sure to take care of academics. If I recall he was actually ahead of schedule with a fairly high GPA when he got to CU.

Bobby Pesavento was a Juco. Last time I checked, he was the QB for CU when we won the Big 12 championship. I'd say that makes him a star at CU. Just sayin.

ok...I've reread posts that I wrote while after a handful of drinks in the morning and realized I didn't make any sense...but **** it...here I go again...

Bobby Pesavento WAS NOT A STAR AT CU! ...Come on man...the guy was decent, and I appreciate him playing for us. but a STAR?! No...our O-line and running game made that entire season. If Bobby was able to throw anything more than a bubble screen to Cortlen or a waggle to Graham, we would have been a lot more competitive. star my ass...come on...

Chris Martin = Cam Newton? Guess Embree ****ed up. Ask Auburn fans in a couple of years if Newton was worth the risk if they get hit with some sanctions. Mind you, if they don't, it's because the NCAA is a bunch of bitches and would no doubt hand us the death penalty for the very same infraction.

I gotta go with 'Duke. Pesavento was a great guy, a good athlete, had some great moments. He gave us one of the best victories in our history.

Looks like JRK was right...

Chris Martin JC

The No. 1 Bulldogs will be without four players who saw significant time in the season opening win over Butler. All have left the program after “internal issues” arose in the last 10 days. Absent from the defense is linebacker Chris Young and heralded defensive end Chris Martin.

A UF writer says he has "transferred" to another JUCO to be closer to his ailing mother.

Bump, because too many people (including Embree) have been complaining about the lack of talent on the team. You're all hypocrites.

But hey at least Chris Martin isin't here. He may put the opposing QB on his ass five times a game but he's a potential distraction and could have a negative effect on our 1-3 football team. Ya, who knows, with an (alleged) bad apple like him hanging around we might do something like lose 18 games in a row on the road. Unlike Martin, Embree decided that walk-on's David Goldberg and Tony Poremba were worthy of scholarships and they've been absolutley dominant at the DE position.

SO what's he at, his 5th school in two years?

Think about why he ended up at a JUCO. I know you can analyze this situation using some critical thinking skills, I believe in you.

There could be several different reasons why. If you know the actual answer then I'll specifically address that. And regardless it still doesn't change the fact that you specifically didn't want him but then come on here and complain about the team's talent level everyday.

I'll tell you what: I will let you enlighten the board on the entire situation. You're the one calling Embree a hypocrite, so I assume you know the whole story about why Martin is not in Boulder. I would actually like to know the real story here.

TIA...

I don't think that JRK knows what the word "hypocrite" means. Either that or he's too stupid to realize that people can want to both upgrade talent and build back the culture that works for sustained success at CU. It's a process and the culture is the thing you can't compromise in an organization. But what do I know? I'm sure that our expert teenager will call upon his vast experience to clinic us all on how to build and run successful organizations while also imparting his wisdom on what works within the CU dynamic.

Wait, I thought I was the expert teenager!

Hmm really, because it actually works perfectly the way I used it. Hypocrite: "A person who
acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings."

Either that or he's too stupid to realize that people can want to both upgrade talent and build back the culture that works for sustained success at CU.

Ya of course they can and ideally that would be the way to go. But beggars can't be choosers...

It's a process and the culture is the thing you can't compromise in an organization.

That process involves getting quality players. If you're not getting it done on the recruiting trail (11th ranked class in the Pac-12) then you better get players in here through other means. And who says that culture can never be compromised? Like I said above ideally you wouldn't but if you have to so be it. And who's to say that Martin would "compromise the culture" anyways. He's been indecisive about where he wants to go to college and once got caught with weed, doesn't sound so bad to me. Did we compromise the culture when we added Paul Richardson? Plenty of "troubled" athletes have rewarded teams for taking a chance on them. It's worth the risk, and if it doesn’t work out it's not end of the world. Seeing this compromising of culture bs makes me think of Josh McDaniels philosophy when he took over the Broncos and Hawkins shrugging of loses the past few years beacuse he had a team full of "good guys."

But what do I know?

Not Much? :smile2:

our expert teenager

I’m a man, I’m 20.

will call upon his vast experience to clinic us all on how to build and run successful organizations while also imparting his wisdom on what works within the CU dynamic.

Isn’t that what I always do here? I do appreciate you pointing out my vast experience and wisdom though, nice to know that my opinions are valued.

yo dip****, please name the D1 school where this guy is playing right now.

I am rather excited to see Buffnik's response.

No pressure, though.

(Don't disappoint me.)

Only works if you're mischaracterizing those stated beliefs or feelings. Embree is acting in contradiction to your stated beliefs, not his. He has never said anything to indicate he doesn't value football character. That doesn't mean choir boys. But it does mean being a good teammate and being responsive to coaching.

Ya of course they can and ideally that would be the way to go. But beggars can't be choosers...

Yes, you can be choosers. Bring in guys who won't do the things you're preaching that you expect from everyone else and you lose the team. Hawkins talked it. Embree is living it.

You can't compromise culture. It's who you are and what you stand for. You obviously want a different culture.

I'm not going to go into it regarding Martin, but you don't know the story here. It's not some weed and confusion of where to go to college. That's symptomatic of other things. Have you ever asked yourself why no program in the country stepped up and tried to bring in a 4*/5* talent?

You need to distinguish between off-field problems and football character. I don't give a **** if someone got in a fight, did some drugs, broke the law or had some academic issues. As long as they're in their playbooks, listen to coaches, show up on time for practice, love to compete, and make plays on gameday... they have football character. You can't bring in guys who don't. They destroy your organization. Regarding the other stuff, you just put them on a short leash because there are limits on behavior when they're part of the community and represent your organization. Martin would be at CU if it was a matter of having a minor possession charge on his record and having trouble deciding on a school. Embree's an NFL guy. He's a former player. He gets football character. He gets that it's a bottom line business.

Not Much? :smile2:

Finally something I agree with.

I’m a man, I’m 20.

You and Martin.

I'm amazed that Embree hasn't asked you to come in for weekly consulting meetings.

So is Chris Martin looking to join a D1 program next spring or fall after completing his year at Navarro JC?
