BOULDER – Sources tell BSN Denver that Colorado Buffaloes safeties coach and once interim defensive coordinator Joe Tumpkin will no longer be coaching at CU. Tumpkin’s contract is set to expire on Feb. 1 and while it’s still unclear if he has been terminated or if the university will just simply let his contract run out, what is clear is that he will not be a coach at Colorado next year.

Don't know if this is a factor but simply letting the contract run out lets them get rid of him without having to justify a firing for cause. Fire for cause and he might claim damages based on harm to his reputation, etc.

Considering what he is accused of it isn't surprising that CU decided that he couldn't continue. Boulder is a place that is not accepting of that kind of action (and I agree with that attitude) so keeping him would have been hard.

Will this have any impact on recruits or were they up to speed on this?

he's not been out recruiting since the event and since he was suspended, i don't think he had any contact with anyone since the event.

Ten or fifteen years ago he may have kept his job. Times have changed.

Would really be sad if he is totally vindicated later. Seems that happens a lot in these cases.

Sad situation all around. Hope he gets his life in order and hope we can find a capable coach and recruiter to replace him

Well, I'd imagine there is more to it than just a "She said, he said." Maybe this is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

About a third of domestic violence cases have their charges dropped because either the 'victim' recants or because the DA doesn't think there is a case.

Do you have any info that supports this? Just wondering how you came to this conclusion and what qualifies as "a lot".
