Passing: 23/32 333 yards 3 tds 2 int
Rushing: 21 carries, 135 yards, 1 td
First CU QB to ever pass for 300+ and rush for 100+ in a single game.
Great performance even if he were a senior.
The ceiling looks pretty high as some of his mistakes are correctable as well. But 300/100 is nuts.
Dude went 17/18 in the first half too. I hope they open more of the playbook with him now as well.
Holy ****, he's gonna be here a while.
Awesome. But how has that not happened before?
What a debut...way to go Montez.
Great job by a young QB on the road. Hard to not start Sefo when he is healthy but Montez is certainly capable.
He looked beat to **** by the end. That's the stuff legends are made of.
I'm very excited about the future of the Buffs. He is a warrior.
great play and yet tons of room to grow. you could tell he wasn't just feeling the game yet.
He looked surprised and lightly confused every time he got a rushing first down. Burrito surmised that rushing in D-1 is easier than Texas HS football.
Just got your first dub at autzen stadium. ATAA BOY #12
Getting up off the mat, dead tired, taking a beating to deliver that ball to bobo and put us ahead for good. Legendary. Absolutely legendary.
Should have been 18/19 w/ 2TDs. Didn't agree with calling the TD pass out of bounds.
Showed an amazing amount of character. Last week would have broken some QBs, he had every reason to doubt himself.
Instead he showed up big, played under control, played like a leader, played like a winner.
I think had he struggled it would have been hard for the team. Instead we beat a quality team on the road.
It's Sefo's job when he comes back but now he doesn't have to force himself back, and when he does come back there won't be a fear of what happens should he go down again.
What a difference a week makes after working with first team.We have some good coaches on this staff.
And if we're going to big up Montez (which we should) have to give some credit to Lindgren getting him ready to perform.
My favorite part of the performance was that he made a play to win that game. We had just been smacked, and he nails that last TD. Great to see some clutch from the QB position.
Anyone got that stat on how many CU quarterbacks have won their first start? We had a long string of losses with that until Sefo (followed by Gehrke & Apsay) and now Montez.
Only complaint is he needs to know when to slide!
Montez went beast this game. He showed out big time. He was accurate as hell and the coaches did great starting him off with easy throws to gain confidence. We are a very legit team guys.
Cody Hawkins won his first start. So did Klatt. Both against the lambies.
I'd argue that this is definitely the most impressive of the bunch, and that Klatt game was the best of his entire career.
After Cody, it was probably 5 or 6 before Sefo, right?
The interceptions were hard, and had me thinking, "here we go again..." but he came right back and seized victory from the jaws of defeat. The resilience is more impressive than anything else.
I think Ochs won his first start, didn't he? My memory says that he came in in a loss to KSU, but won the next week at aTm. Regardless, there's a lot to be happy about here. We could be looking at this game as a turning point in a few years.
Well, now we know...
Webb went to Cal because he didn't want to be 3rd string for the Buffs
I really think he wasn't mentally prepared to go into the Michigan game - he didn't believe he would have to come in and replace an injured Sefo. He thought the only way he would see the field was in clean up duty.
I don't think he'll ever make that mistake again - after that experience, I think he will approach every week as if he might need to play.
But more importantly: we definitely have at least one very good quarterback for 2017. No "think we have" or "hope we have;" we have one.
Klatt dropped a couple of deep balls in the basket along the west sideline with insane touch. I remember thinking he was going to be Pesevento +1, and then it never really showed up again.
I tell you, he would've made a great punter.
That, and when he's wrapped up, it's okay to go down. You got 3 guys on ya, go down man, you're losing yards.
