Facilities Plans...

Who has that big ass grill/smoker on the trailer? They parked that on the north end of Franklin and had it fenced off. Could have sworn that it had a C club sign there at the entrance to that area.

Dunno, but the C-Club has a big circular tent set up on the west side of the math building.

Parking will not be permitted on the lower practice fields once recreation services assumes ownership, according to the bill. Athletic department officials have said the indoor practice facility on Franklin Field will leave room for roughly 230 cars once construction is finished.

The preliminary renderings I saw showed the remaining grass areas of Franklin converted to new practice fields (two 60-70 yard fields). Has that changed?

Is it normal to practice on turf and play on grass? Does it really matter if the two fields are different.

So I thought it would be awesome if they would orient the practice field east west and have huge doors that open (like 80 foot tall sliding glass doors by 100 yards long) so you can open it up and have 3 fields next to each other. One under cover and the other two outside.

Sounds like an airplane hangar, how large are those moving doors?

It's not abnormal (think of all the indoor facilities that get a lot of use, and how many of those schools play on natural grass). However, his was the excuse/reason recently given by Notre Dame for switching to a synthetic turf field - it would match their practice fields that they've been practicing on for years now. Also, almost every high school in the area practices on grass every day, yet they play games on synthetic surfaces every week.

LONGMONT - Eight business leaders were inducted Wednesday into the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame before a record luncheon crowd of 480 people at the Plaza Convention Center in Longmont.

The Hall's 22nd class includes Mitchell Carson, president and chief executive of Longmont United Hospital; Terrence "Terry" Gallagher, chairman of Gasamat Oil and Smoker Friendly International; Topaz Group founder Robert "Bob" Gill, board chairman for the Innovation Center of the Rockies; William "Bill" Hofgard of Hofgard Insurance in Boulder; Lenny and Sara Martinelli, founders and owners of Louisville-based Three Leaf Concepts; and Lila and the late William G. "Bill" Stewart, who ran what was then KLMO radio in Longmont for nearly 40 years.

In acceptance speeches, Carson praised the hospital's leadership team "for understanding that we give back to the community," Gallagher outlined "traits that make a business leader: hard work, integrity and honesty," and Gill - who has mentored other chief executives for 18 years - praised the Innovation Center for "creating and implementing strategies that have led to five years of new companies, new hires and investment received."

Hofgard told of arriving in Boulder in 1956 as "a skinny kid from Nebraska who moved to Boulder and started selling life insurance." He said his startup philosophy was to "expose yourself to a lot of people in Boulder without getting arrested, and then meet a banker and establish a relationship."

Sara Martinelli said she still is humbled by the opportunity to manage some of "Boulder's biggest treasures" - the Dushanbe Teahouse and Chautauqua Dining Hall - and husband Lenny Martinelli recalled getting his start at the New York Deli on the Pearl Street Mall ("You all remember 'Mork and Mindy,' right?") He also recounted buying what was then Karen's Country Kitchen in Louisville and reopening it as The Huckleberry because, "We lived in Louisville, and we needed someplace to eat."

For Stewart, the day was just beginning; she was to participate in groundbreaking in the afternoon for the 250-seat Stewart Auditorium at the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, for which the Stewart Family Foundation donated most of the $4 million cost. She also announced that the foundation had donated "millions" to what she called the Sustainable Excellence Initiative at the University of Colorado-Boulder, a major upgrade of the athletic facilities to Pacific-12 Conference standards.

Was radio their only business? Lila seems to have donated a ton of money to different projects.

Rick George and his wife made a donation to the longmont museum a couple weeks ago. Man knows how to get it done.

Based on a post on rivals this donation was made at the Spring Game... so I'm guessing we can add that to the earlier known total (~40mil?). Also CU sent a full table to the ceremony yesterday, including Coach MacIntyre

It was more like two tables. MacIntyre looked as though he would rather be getting a root canal. Lila specifically thanked Plati for a specific act of kindness he showed her after her husband passed away. Liz Kritza was also there, along with a slew of AD personnel, including RG.

Good to see the AD coming out to support those who support them. Even though Mac may not have wanted to be there, it's important that he was along with the rest of the Buffs team.

"Well over halfway"?! Didn't we break ground "ceremonially" at the Spring Game? I'm so confused.

Also, I'm really glad to hear about all these conventions they plan to land with the new facility, but what about the Lady Gaga concerts damnit?!

Pretty sure RG is sandbagging to get more donations.
