In spirit of being a Husker fan on a CU Buffs message board, I thought I'd post a thread, rather than respond to one. First off, I do recognize you guys as a rival, and do respect your tradition of great players and coaches. I'll share my favorite moments in the rivalry.

1-NU vs CU 2005. As a 19 point under dog on the road, we beat you guys 30-3. Possibly one of the sweetest blow out wins I've ever seen in being a Husker fan. That was during the Billy C era in Lincoln, and truth be told, we in Huskerland don't speak of him often.

2-NU sneaking by the Buffs in 2003 31-22. I thought that was enough for Frank Solich to keep his job. In retrospect, it should have been.

3-The Kick! I was at the game, seated in the south endzone next to a couple of CU fans. The CU fans were very cool people and enjoyed sitting next to them. Anyways, I never imagined that kick was going to go through. Just an insane atmosphere.

Again, not a flame. I think the NU-CU rivalry is just a natural rivalry. I expect many of you guys to say 62-36 as your favorite moment, or Eric Bienemy running wild in the fourth quarter in 1990. As you should

I want to punch a kitten every time I read/think about Henery's kick. Never been to a Neb vs CU game. 62-36 is the FTMFGW GOAT IMHO IYAM

Of the games I can remember, 2001, and 2007.

2008 was a great game, just ended sadly.

The only game I was at in Nebraska was 1996 at age 9. It was cold and rainy the whole game and my Dad, my best friend and his dad, and I were all decked in Buff gear including yellow ponchos in the corner of an end-zone surrounded by NU fans. We lost 17-12 on 4 field goals. At one point I thought we were going to win the game on FGs alone, but it of course didn't happen. It was a hell of a weekend though, we drove out Thursday and watched movies the whole way there to avoid the terrible scenery and took a tour of Memorial, including the trophy hall and walked on the field. I would have pissed on it, but there was staff around. I also remember we went to dinner at a bar the night before and wore our jerseys proudly as random NU fans grabbed our sleeves and asked, "What's this all about?" I didn't know if they were asking what a jersey was, or what a sleeve was, or what proper clothing was, so I just ignored them.

My favorite memory was the 2002 game in Lincoln as this was my first away Buffs game to that point and my freshman year as a Buff. I sat next to my uncle & cousin who are die hard kNU fans and we came in as the favorite to win, but I was very hesitant to believe that. After getting a fairly good razzing from all around me I was vindicated by Brian Calhoun coming from nowhere (I think he was the 3rd or 4th string RB that year) and ran for around 130 yards and 250+ total as a team. Domintating like this on the ground is a beautiful spectical to watch and it almost gave my uncle a heart attack as he kept cussing, "who the **** is this Brian Calhoun kid"

I hope to make it out to Boulder this year for the game. I have a cousin who lives out in Boulder who owns a landscaping business, and yes my cousin is a diehard Buffs fan.

I expect to take a razzing for the ages for my allegiance to the Big Red though.

The 1989 game. That was my freshman year at CU, and 27-21, and everybody marching around the field with fragments of the goal posts chanting, "we want notre dame." Some of us were shaking the smashed oranges people threw on the field at the terribly sad NU fans. Great times.

But the 1986 game was pretty special too. Listened to that on the radio.

    1990. You can't beat that.

Also, the loss in 99, was a great game. It was a heartbreaker like 2000 and 2009, but better because instead of squandering games the Buffs mounted a remarkable comeback, but sadly missed the field goal to put it away. Great game though.

I was at a stupid ****ing birthday party that day and it happened to be for a kid whose dad is a kNU fan and we were in the car to go from bowling alley to movie theater at the end of the game when we missed that field goal and I was ****ing pissed at that ass-hole cheering like he won the ****ing lottery. I wasn't friends with that kid after that day. Seriously.

    1. 62-36. This is the game that made me an actual buff fan. I've always liked CU, but I was just a casual fan, til I was in attendance at this game and it changed me in that respect. I have only missed 4 buff games in Folsom since this (One of them just had to be Oklahoma in '07 :sad2:)

    2. 2002- This was my first away game (second time traveling for the Buffs, I also saw the Fiesta bowl earlier that year) and it was great to walk into the worlds largest concentration of smug assholes and leave with bragging rights over every single one of them.

    3. 2007- First half felt like an epic shoot out, but the buffs dominated the rest of the game, and left bowl eligible.

1989, the previous year we lost due to a flannigan fumble, winning in 89 at home and watching mac carried around the field was pure bliss. The memories are few and far between since nebraska owned cu during the 70's and early 80's but that's the game that started it all for me.

I can't remember if the game was in 88 or 89, but it was in Lincoln. However, It was a cold rainy afternoon game, kind of a back and forth game. Our O-line was methodically wearing down their defense and Eric Bienemy had a pretty good game except for several fumbles. I believe he scored the go ahead TD in the 4th quarter. And the score ended up something like 27-23. Then the players went over to where the Buff faithfull were sitting and high fived them!

Who cares if they (or anyone, for that matter) think it's a rivalry? I don't hate Nebraska, they're just one of the teams we compete with for the same title. What makes wins against them sweeter is if they are higher ranked or to shut up their more arrogant fans. That's true for any team, it's just that we play them every year, and they don't have that many down years.

I was the happiest when it was 35-3 at 2:00 mins into the second Q in 2001.

Even though I vowed to go to Lincoln from 1992 until we won there, 2002 was just the encore to 2001, possibly the greatest football game I have been to (that includes CU-Michigan 1994).

The weather, the fan atmossphere, the intensity of the players from the Ralphie run was the best feeling I have ever had at a football game... including the 2 Eagles NFC Championship game wins....

    Great times: 1990, 2001, 2007.

    Heartbreakers: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2008

    ****ty times: 1994, 1995, 2005

Fusker, I'm surprised you didn't mention 1994. #2 CU vs. #3 NU. CU favored and husker fans upset that CU had taken OU's place as the team Osborne couldn't beat, and then you just smoke us 24-7 and then go on to win the first NC in more than 20 years.

BTW, years like '88,'96,97,98,00,08 are the reasons why Nebraska pisses me off so much. There have been so many games where CU had great chances to win or should have won. It's almost like a curse. The CU/NU series has had potential to be so much more even the last 20 or 30 years. Frustrating!:sad2:

That was before I was really big into Husker football. I was only 6 at the time, and was just a casual fan. That all changed for some reason I think against Kansas later in the year. Safe to say, I've been diehard ever since.

The 2004 game was a nightmare for me, the first year under Bill Callahan. 2007 I physically couldn't take another game coached by Bill Callahan.

Been to every NU/CU game at Memorial since 1987. Every NU/CU game since 2003.
    My faves:

1992: 52-7. Halloween game in the rain/sleet/snow. Just a riot in the stands.

1994: 24-7. Berringer at QB shows off his arm and our defense bends without breaking allowing Salam 150 some yards without letting CU score much. Beautiful battle of the two best teams in CFB that season.

2000: 34-32. CU makes a furious comeback only to have their hearts broken by Bobby Newcombe and Eric Crouch. Josh Brown kicks the game winner as time expires. First time I've ever been in the middle of a mosh pit at the stadium. Happened twice since: 2001 OU and....

    2008: Ya'll know it.

2005: 30-3. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day for a tailgate. Had a ton of fun mixing with the CU fans before the game.

    It's amazing how close the games were in the late 90's into 2000. '96: 17-12 '97:27-24 '98:16-14 '99: 33-30 OT '00: 34-32

This is why I love this rivalry and travel to each location every year. You're always in for a great game despite the records.

The team Osborne couldn't beat?? Not sure that was ever the case. Maybe the team that was up and coming or next big rival thingy.

Certainly never considered someone NU couldn't beat. NU squashed that little uprising in a hurry.

Trust me, I have friends that are husker fans and friends and relatives that have played for Nebraska. NU fans were getting mighty frustarted. When CU beat them in '89 and '90 a lot of fuskers wanted Osborne out. They feared CU had taken OU's place and it appeared like that might be possible. Up until 1994, Osborne was still known as the coach who couldn't win the big one.

This is very true. I knew that CU had started to take OU's place once my dad started using the same explitives during CU games that he used to reserve only for OU. :smile2: It also didn't help matters when coach Mac got his title before TO.

My Fav has to be 62-36, went to my first game on 00 in Lincoln, was quite an experience and we almost pulled it out with Ochs as a true frosh. I guess is was 04 in Lincoln that ranks up there, nothing like watching dejected Huskers humbled in their own house. The "throw it you ****ing *****" game in 05 Boulder was up there too. :smile2:

1986 - 20-10 - Thoughts of Barry Remington's interception in front of the student section with three minutes to play still brings chills

    1990 - 27-12 - Eric Bieniemy's redemption. Four touchdowns in the fourth.

1989 - 27-21 - Hagan to Flannigan. "Miami: Where Buffaloes Roam"

    2001 - 62-35 - After a number of agonizingly close losses - pure joy.

I've admitted many times that this is definately a rivalry and to be honest, I can't wait for our games against one another. My favorite games are the ones where it actually means something for both teams. It's not just about beating the other team, it's about beating that other team to make it to the championship game. Man, I miss those days........:sad1:
