The all in one "Lets talk Nebraska thread"

Oh who cares, he was getting a million plus a year and when he gets the axe he'll get a nice little paycheck. I don't feel sorry for him...I envy him

Something tells me he would trade dollars for success.

It's not always about dollars and cents Kameltoe.

In the grand scheme of things...yes it is. You think he coaches for Nebraska because he's a husker fan? get real

Listen to that press conference and tell me if he's:

A) ticked pink thinking about his buyout.

B) rattled about the direction the program and his coaching position is headed.

Im sure he will be disappointed about the results here, but I gotta side with Kameltosis here. The stack of 100's will soothe that pain.

oh my god, you should've heard the press conference. He sounds terrible. I think all the criticism and everything is wearing him down. I feel bad for him. I think he sees the writing on the wall. I just feel bad for the guy as a person. It's like he's out on an island all by himself. he's still being nothing but pure class through it all. I have to imagine that these past few weeks and especially past few days have been very difficult and turbulent for him and I just wish him all the best trying to get through them.

My heart is really breaking for Coach Callahan right now.

he's a guy I really want to like a lot. He's pretty much a great guy. Good Catholic man, has his kids at Pius, and does a lot of charity work along with his wife in the community, and I really like the way he goes about coaching the team. I just don't know if his schemes will work in college.

I know one thing, his failure has certainly not been from a lack of effort. Nobody in these 93 counties puts in longer hours and works harder than Callahan. The guy is flat out dedicated and straight up meticulous. Maybe too much so. I feel really bad that it all has to go down this way. It's like he hasn't got a friend in the world here right now.

Poor Bill. I really hope NU wins this weekend just so the guy has something go his way if nothing else.

The only way you could more more sappy is to refere to yourself in the third person.:violin:

BC will go back to the NFL as an OL coach or OC, he will be fine.

The man's a millionaire after making our team the worst it's been in 50 years.....pardon me if my sympathy is a little lackluster

Lack of leadership and reality are the NU problems!!!

It is not like Pederson was on the job for 6 months and got fired, he was there almost 5 years. When you give a guy a raise and a contract extension after 4.5 years and then fire him 3 months later because things are not working out it is a failure of leadership (management). Couldn't you tell it wasn't working out in the first 4.5 years.

The biggest problem is the unmitigated and unrealistic enthusiasm of Husker Fans for anything to do with their football program. Literally, Pederson and Callahan got extensions and raises because Husker Fans extrapolated a small amount of success to an unrealistic outcome. Last year winning the Big 12 North had Husker Fans running around talking about BCS games and "order restored"...add in the Tom Lemming inflated recruiting rankings and this self-promoted frenzy resulted in Pederson getting his contract in spite of the fact that his problems dealing with people had been well documented. And of course this situation enabled Pederson to give Callahan an extension and raise even though he had proved little in his tenure.

I have to laugh that this whole thing is going to cost the NU program about $5 to 6 Million.

Yeah ... our troubles only cost us $3 million. :smile2:

"Nebraska interim athletic director Tom Osborne responded Thursday to reports that football coach Bill Callahan said the former coach was "trying to run things from Washington" while he was a U.S. congressman.

Callahan allegedly called Osborne a "crusty old [expletive]," according to former Nebraska football trainer Doak Ostergard, who is quoted in a book to be self-published by a student at the University of Nebraska."

Get your popcorn out! This is gonna get good!!!!

The rats are jumping ship. There's a truck in our parking lot at work that had a kNU license plate frame and sticker on the bumper. Well, I saw the truck this morning and the license plate frame and sticker were gone.

i heard TO on a the radio say that he feels sorry for the current coaching staff because he knows how rough and nasty the fans there can get.

he said, back in the day many times his kids didn't want to go to school because people were so mean and nasty to them.

his mailbox was blown up on a couple of occasions...

and he had to change his phone # a few times and often had to take his phone off the hook during particularly rough football times.

CLASSY!

HA! The old couple that flies a husker flag year round in Johnstown took their flag down and now have a rockies flag up.

Sounds like that town is just chock full of bandwagoners...:lol:

I'll have to talk to my neighbor down the street and see if he's painted over the big fusker logo on his garage floor.... This promises to be even more fun than the last time the red melted down.

Wow, I'm blown away at how generous your heart is. You do realize that what you said is the equivalent to saying in January 1945 "I know Hitler wasn't successful but I really feel for the guy now that his whole geopolitical vision is falling apart and everyone, even some members in his own party, are criticizing him and hoping he fails. I mean, jeez, he worked so hard conquering Western Europe and fighting a war on two fronts is really courageous and I feel bad that it looks like it's just not going to work out for him..."

Okay, the Nazi comparison is admittedly way over the top, but the parody is intended to highlight how surprised I am that you feel sorry for Cally. Cally, like Hitler, is a dick. He's definitely not a dick on the same level as Hitler but a dick none the less. Everyone knows this. He divided both programs he has lead as HC. He sent them into chaos. We heard it from his players in Oakland and we've heard it from many former fusker players. Both programs blew up because of his arrogance and lack of leadership. While this was happening he was making millions. In both situations he could see things going awry and feel the programs slipping out his control and knew that it was his fault as HC but that didn't stop him from cashing in those huge paychecks or sleeping at night. After all this mess, a complete debacle, now you fuskers get to have the pleasure putting a few more millions in his pocket, rewarding him essentially for ****ing up your program, so you can have the honor of showing him the door. And you, Dusty, can find it in your heart to feel sorry for him? You sir, are a man with a very big heart and a easily forgiving demeanor. More than I am for sure. I don't feel any compassion for the guy and he's been doing me the favor of screwing up the program I hate for 5 years!!

If you asked him, he'd tell you he was just finishing Christ's work. And it wasn't bull, he really thought he was.

Callahan's a good guy. I just don't think his schemes will work in college. I have been one of his biggest supporters since he got here. But he's too stubborn to change and his system clearly doesn't work here. I think he's got to go. If he were willing to change his system i would seriously reconsider my position though.

If you say so. Maybe God is trying to tell him that Christ doesn't need his help when it comes to football.

perfect summation. I dont think he will be willing to let go of the OC position which in my mind is the only way he keeps his job.

This doesn't make sense to me. Cally's 'schemes' are on the offensive side of the ball but your defense is the thing that sucks and is bringing about this melt down. If Cally changed the Offensive system you guys would still suck. Can it be, possibly, that the flaw is not his 'schemes' at all but just that he's a ****ty leader?

He may be a great husband and father and friend but when it comes to football he's George W. Bush IMHO.

This is really sad. I expected a lot more after four years. No one can honestly judge this a success.

Sounds like a pretty strong message from God to a guy trying to finish Christ's work: "You're ****ing up JC's game plan Cally! When I said I wanted you to lead a football team to victory I meant the JV soccer team!" :wow::lol:
