The problem for most of those teams is -- they have no other options.
OU and OSU are going to be locked together, probably the same as KU and KSU are locked together. I don't think the respective states will allow them to split apart into separate conferences. I am somewhat surprised the states have allowed them to separate their revenues to such striking disparity.
Mizzou might have other options, and Kansas might have other options. Baylor, ISU -- no options whatsoever.
OU's president came out and stated that the Sooners did receive an invitation to join the SEC, but they have made it pretty clear that they don't have any desire (guts) to leave the University of Texas.
There's some buzz amongst the bongwhorns about an eleventh member: Notre Dame.
The rational is that the conference would be accommodating to two prima Donnas with their own respective TV networks.
ND's catholic fanbase would follow them anywhere in the country. ND did play in San Antonio last year, and is no stranger to Texas Catholics. The recruiting would serve ND's interests. ND would have OU and UT to legitimize their BCS status, and eight others who are relatively easier.
Who knows what the Domers say about the move, but the Viva B12 crowd seems energized about it.
All it is is just buzz by the shorthorns, they are trying to spin it that ND and Ark want into the conference to make it seem like the conference is actually desirable. Neither will ever happen though, just more UT spin.

I don't see any concievable way that Arkansas would have any interest in joining the Big Texas. They had more than their fill of dealing with Texas and their friends when they were in the SWC. The only advantage for Arkansas would be having an easier conference schedule since the SEC is much stronger in the middle and bottom of the conference as well as more exposure in Texas with more games there. On the other hand in the SEC they are an equal financial partner with a stronger future financial outlook, they also get a higher profile conference nationally, much more long term stability, and an equal voice in conference decisions. In short, it's not going to happen.
The Notre Dame thing is also I think a fantasy. ND is not highly interested in dealing with Texas's garbage either, and Texas is not going to defer to ND. If ND decides to finally give in and join a conference they will follow the money and likely end up in the Big X which is a better fit geographically, academically, already includes a lot of teams they traditionally play often (Mich, Mich State, Purdue, Northwestern,) and also has the advantage in terms of stability.
Texas as usual is spending more time pi**ing on peoples legs and telling them it is raining. Texas is trying very hard to convince their fans and fans nationwide that the conference that they have invented is legitimate and desirable, it is all crap but the fans who want to believe it will and Texas will continue to make their money.

Truth, it's just UT's mouthpiece making noise to try to make the Big 12-2 appear to be attractive
uh, yeah. Arky will go back to the renewed SWC on the fourth of never. After looking at the map, I realized that Arkansas is closer to several Big 12 schools than it is to it's nearest SEC school - LSU. Missouri, OSU, OU, UT and Baylor are all closer to Fayetteville than Baton Rouge is. Probably Lawrence and Manhattan, too. If geography were the only consideration, it would be a good move for them. Geography is pretty far down on their list of priorities, I'm sure.

Exactly. UT spends it's life wondering why everyone doesn't love them as much as they love themselves.I totally agree. However, I can see why UT and it's minions would see this as a viable option for them. Being too blind to their own shortcomings, they would think that Arky would be crazy NOT to move. After all, who wouldn't want to be in the same conference as UT? Here's their chance to make amends for the mistake they made 25 years ago. Oh, and by the way, you'll have to pay an entrance fee to UT, OU, and A&M while you're at it. If you're lucky, we might allow you to make almost as much money as we do.

i heard a joke once: Texans are like the French, they think they are the coolest thing around......but no one else does.
i say this with the caveat that my mom's family are from southern france: Perpignon, which is a very cool town.
