2012-13 Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona Basketball game thread

Announcers on tv, after the end of the game, made some comment about having talked with Boyle about changes to come at Coors. Anyone know whats up with that?

He said no more rushing the court. We expect to win every home game.

What an amazing game! I was listening to KOA on the way in and the students were LOUD on the pregame show 45 minutes before the start of the game. There were a few empty seats in sections 7, 8, and 9. Unfortunately those are right behind the scorers table and are the parts of the CEC that you see on TV during the game. The rest of the place was packed. Did they show the guy in the Speedo on TV? That was great.

In addition to Elway, Mason Crosby and Alec Burks (and Shannon Sharpe) were there. The Buffs really seem to love Sharpe. He got a nice courtside seat courtesy of Burks tonight.

Most impressive thing to me tonight -- we just beat them.

Arizona didn't have a bad shooting night.

Refs didn't give us home cooking.

We didn't make any fluke shots.

We just ****ing beat them.

Respect.

Buffs are for real this year.

Best game since beating Texas a few years ago. Couple of things I noticed:

XJ has found his confidence. Having another scoring option is huge.
Talton is playing amazing. When he gives quality minutes on both ends of the floor it let's our starters play a bit harder.
The refs again are terrible. **** them die of aids. Everytime we would pull away a bunch of bull**** fouls were called.

And last Sean Miller will never make Arizona winners. Instead of practicing good defense they practice acting. Off every screen they would throw their bodies back trying to get a call. They flop all over the court instead of being tough and athletic like they should be. Hill you are awesome to watch, so smooth and under control. Johnson you are a great defender and play the right way. Lyons, Chol and the rest of the team is soft and a bunch of pussies.

Sean Miller is soft, and you're seeing the same thing with his brother Archie at Dayton. Arizona has all the talent in the world, but they lack the killer instinct to ever finish the deal in March. There are certainly far worse positions to be in, but nothing about Arizona with Sean Miller will ever intimidate me.

Hat tip to UBL for this

I was yelling at Sean Miller the entire game for being such a whiny bitch, all he does is whine whine whine. I enjoyed the stink eyes I was getting from the Az parents.

XJ was awesome tonight. Dre was a monster defensively, he shut down Solomon Hill when it still mattered. Hill scored some late garbage time points. Also, Hill can't guard a soul. As good as he is on the offensive end, he's that much worse on defense.

Its really great to see Talton come on and give us a capable guard off the bench. He was very good tonight (throwing out his one bad TO to Lyon in the first half). The Mayor did his thing in the 2nd half, he is an absolutely special player. He's so cool and in control, when he plays like he's the best player on the floor, like he often is, this team is going to be very tough to beat.

I was ok with the floor rush, considering what happened in the first AZ game. I hope its the last time we see it though, barring some ridiculous circumstances.

this
Agreed but the only time I see it happening again maybe Kansas next year. Given the history I wouldn't be surprised. And for those of u that think that as students we've been treated well athletically, the football team's lack of competitiveness certainly factors into the excitement for the basketball team

The fat heads made the rushing of the court worth watching. Hilarious to see them all in the air while everyone was on the court.

Oh yeah thought it was awesome when the student section started singing the national anthem. New tradition per CUnit.

I dont always disagree with Tad Boyle, but when I do, it's about court storming. If he doesn't want the fans to storm he needs to get his team ranked higher than the teams we are playing.... or at least close.

Or he if it bothers him THAT much, he can take the Embree route and just never win big games

Arizona has some stupid fans

I like this post:

I mean...who in the heck is Xavier Johnson?

He is the guy that dropped 13 points on you in Arizona. That goes with his 6 boards and 2 steals.

The whole thread is them bitching about the refs. At one point in the 2nd half we had 6 or 7 fouls called on us and they had 1. And they still bitched about the calls. Their teams needs to worry more about playing basketball and less about trying to draw fouls from flopping.

A few quick thoughts as I try to stay awake during this conference call (who the hell schedules a conference call at 7:30 am the day after CU-Arizona? Stupid Texans...):

* Students were AMAZING. Period. It gets said occasionally, but not often enough -- what the student section has been able to do is unreal. Loved the national anthem, but I liked it more when I thought it just happened organically because they were so amped up for this game. Hoping 'Tini's wrong on this one (doubtful) and that it's not an every game thing. But if it is, that's cool too. As for the court storming, I was against it at first (same thought process as Tad), but the more I think about it, the more I'm good with it. The way we lost to Arizona, the build up to this game, the fact that we're unranked and they're a top 10 team AND let's not ignore Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller doing the student section showdown with CSU, I'm fine. Like others have pointed out, they've only had one other chance to charge under Tad's reign -- and that was his first year here before we truly had a grasp on what was going on. Let them get it out of their system. Plus, watching the players reaction to it? I think it meant a lot to them. This hasn't been the easiest season, so let them celebrate a little. Which leads me to....

* So help me God, I'm terrified of ASU right now. We already lost once to them thanks to an Arizona Hangover, let's not make it twice.

* Gotta give props to the Zona fans. They infiltrated the Keg well, and probably represented better than any other fanbase this year (yes, that means you too CSU). Plus, 90% of the ones I talked to were cool. If they're our rival (and it appears that things are slowly inching that way), I'm pumped. This isn't a rivalry like Nebraska with pure hatred. This is a rivalry because those two teams bring it every time. I dig that.

* XJ, Talton, Scott... all three looked great out there. And all three are freshmen. And I'm still high on Eli. Tad knows what he's doing there, and I think we all need to stop questioning his recruiting. I think the biggest surprise is Talton. On the post game radio show, he said that at one point he looked at Ski and said "I need you to start mentally getting ready. I'm gonna have to put you in soon for XT." Ski looked at him and said "Coach, let him get this. He's got it right now." Said that he's had confidence in the bench, but now the rest of the team does too. That's huge.

* The Mayor might need a promotion soon. I believe Rugged was the one who said he might be the Governor by the end of this season, and it appears he may be right...

* My voice is in and out today. I have a horrible headache. I'm tired, I'm sore. It was worth every bit of pain.

EDIT - I forgot. I think I'm more upset about the "Overrated" chant than charging the court. I don't get the overrated chant. That diminishes what we just did. Don't do that. Honestly, part of me was hoping for "Just like last game" or "2-0" or something. But this is a minor minor nit pick. C-Unit brought it last night.

That is the best part of the game last night. We owned a top 10 team and we are arguing about storming the court and our chants.

Agreed. We are growing and learning let us enjoy the ride without all the rules and complaining. We will figure it out.

I don't see a problem with it every now and again. It was way more justified than rushing the field against Georgia a few years back. Good solid win for the program, just take care of business from here on out, should go dancing.

I guess I am torn on this one. In the spirit of the F*'em up chant I say who cares what others think of our students. I would rather have a student section step on a few toes crossing the line of good taste than sit quietly or go easy on a team when they come into the Keg.
Then again I was just saying to people next to me that it was cool that AZ wasn't fouling under 2 when the chant broke out. I think it was the circumstance on that one that got me.

The AZ fans in the DH last night were decent. A bit too established and comfortable, but they weren't being A-holes or disrespectful. I hope they continue to send a small contingent (good to have enough of a presence to make the students want to shout them down).

I hope our CA Buffs get organized and start to arrive at all the CA venues in numbers each time. I know they have made a good start - but look forward to when the P12 looks up to Colorado as the program to feared not only in the Keg, but when our fans roll into their venues as well. Remember how we had to endure Kansans? I want that!

Consistent drubbings in CA havent helped that cause.
