time to get this going.

Mark Gottfried out at NC State at the end of the season.

N.C. State has fired basketball coach Mark Gottfried.
He will coach the final four regular-season games and the ACC tournament, according to N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow.

That one had been rumored to be in the works for the past couple weeks.

The one I'm really wondering about is Tom Crean at Indiana. Expectations were sky high this year and it looks like they won't make the Dance.

When Davis signed with IU, I was really hoping that he'd come to his senses after a year and realize what a whiny brat Crean is...if he gets let go (which I personally think he'll get another year), I'd love for Davis to come on home.

And Gottfried is a creep from what I've heard. I do wish NC State would become relevant again though - they have a pretty good and loyal fanbase that deserves some good seasons imo.

Wasn't Gottried one of the guys that was adamant we didn't deserve to make the NCAA tourney in 2011?

Nc state is a great job for basketball, makes no sense they can't seem to get hires right.

Is it though? Bad AD, unreasonable fan base, shadow of two LEGENDARY programs. I'm honestly not sure they're a top half of the ACC job.

I never really take fan expectations into consideration but I see some of your points. The only thing I would say is that 99% of schools are behind duke and North Carolina. Nc state has great facilities, huge fan base, good location and there is more than enough talent to go around. ACC basketball is going to be tough but we have seen many of their team do well in the tourney.

True. Great arena & facilities but I just feel like expectations are out of wack. Who wants to go coach at a place where a coach is fired for only going to the dance four out of six years when there are some serious hurdles and questions about the support you get from the administration?

NC State should leave for the SEC. They'd be basketball elites there and NCST cares the most about football among the ACC schools in NC. SEC wants into that state. Would be a perfect fit.

this year, they believed they had the best PG in the nation and finishing 2nd to last in conference simply doesn't cut it.

that, and both loses to Carolina were noncompetitive matches.

I lived in Raleigh six years and worked in an office with mostly NCSU grads -- I think they have reasonable expectations for their team in both football and basketball.

they've been after Sean Miller's for a decade, they're going for his brother now.

sigh. yes. all true. however, this may be the one fan base East of the Mississippi who doesn't want their team in the SEC. last round of expansion the "State & VT to the SEC" rumors were frequent, and their fans had little interest in leaving the ACC.

To me, this would be awkward as hell for the NC State players. Maybe it'll have the opposite effect though, who knows?

Good for them.

i get that sentiment. at the end of the day, NCSU fan desires will matter about as much as Maryland Terrapin fan desires did.

It would be very hard for NCSU administrators to ignore the $$ signs that the SEC could put up.

We are a long way removed though from the politics out there. If NCSU tried to move would the UNC supporters in positions of power try to block it? To them a weakening of the the ACC and strengthening of the SEC would certainly be a concern.

Would it really weaken the ACC if they replaced NC State with UConn, West Virginia or Cincinnati? I don't think it would. New market and no real loss of prestige in the bargain.

Yeah I guess I'm hoping that the decision makers have learned from some of the mistakes other schools have made. It's really cool that Missouri is making all this money in the sec but their athletic department is a disaster.

Not a lot of prestige but NCSU is a known name associated with the league. Assumption would also be that they would take VTU with them?

North Carolina and the rest of the ACC may also not like the Idea of the state becoming an "SEC footprint" state instead of pure ACC.

The SEC already has a pretty big footprint in North Carolina and the SEC Network is based in Charlotte.

I'm also surprised that NC State hasn't had more success given their support, history and facilities. They've really become an afterthought to UNC and Duke even with a couple of Sweet 16 appears in the last 5 years.

UW and its AD need to decide whether they want to win games or just be an NBA feeder program. At some point, being a top 3 roster with bottom third results can't keep cutting it. They're the Texas A&M football program of college basketball.

So, any good assistants that Tad can go after? He really needs new blood. Guys aren't improving.

Very little measurable improvement of our players over their time here.
King showed great improvement last year, and fell backwards this year.
Miller has shown some improvement. But so many guys have fallen backwards or not improved.
