Official 2017 Coaching Carousel Thread - Zona hires Sumlin

People on Twitter talking about Chip Kelly going there :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Looking forward to people wondering if Kelly would go to Georgia State if that job opens up.
I hope he does. That would be hilarious. He's almost been out of the college game long enough now it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

Les Miles’ son is a walk-on on the team and he feels like a B1G coach. Ferentz/Miles punting matchups every year would be LIT.

I think they’re going all in on Frost tho. I hate everything they stand for, but Riley showed they can still recruit. It’s a crappy job but a former player like Frost would get a better chance to succeed than anyone else.
The whole idea of the legacy coach saving the program has lost its luster for me. It bombed for CU, and is bombing for BYU currently. Man I really thought Embree and team were the ticket to restore greatness.

They are talking Trev Albert to replace the AD. Didn't he wine, cry, and quit espn coz he couldn't be on gameday instead of Fowler, Herbie, and Corso. Befitting

In fairness, Frost is on a really good career path. I think the plan was always for Riley to get 4 or 5 (maybe 6) years of good pay and good football before retiring. That would have allowed Frost the chance to get several good head coaching years in while Riley stocked the cupboards.

Riley and his staff failing this hard was not the plan. At the very least, the failures are a year early, when they have a brutal 2018 schedule and could easily fire him then, at least getting an extra year of experience for Frost.

Wow, niblets fire Eichorst. Only a member of the Big Red cult, a desperate HC wanna be (Danny, is that you?) or a retread looking for one more big pay day will be in line for that job. NU will be the foil for many a raise for college HC's this December.

OTOH, this bodes well for CU's trip to nibletland next year.

Somewhere, Frankie Slopitch and Wild Bill Callahan are laughing.

I love the implosion taking place in Lincoln.

Their fans must really hate the near certainty that we are going in there next year to kick the living Hell out of them. Maybe if they fire their coach now, they won't totally suck by then.

Nebraska, as a program and a fanbase, just needs to stop living in the past and accept that they haven't been truly relevant in one and a half decades. The game has passed them by and they're not nearly as big and important these days as they think they are. The parallels between Nebraska and Liverpool FC are very, very striking.
Leave that weak soccer **** in the dedicated thread I've had on ignore for 2 years! ;)

I love the prospect of catching Nebraska in a rebuild, system shift year zero in 2018.

Trev Alberts is by far the leader in the clubhouse. He has actually done a great job at Omaha and has the Hockey, Basketball, and Soccer programs in good shape and have had legitimate success. His big move was to eliminate the Football and Wrestling programs. He is a football guy, and he probably really wants to be back in charge of a school with football and especially in Lincoln.

If Trev has the courage to come in and let Riley try and get the program going in the right direction, then he knows Riley is not a long term option, so his buddy Scott Frost would be and is the coach in waiting. I actually believe that Frost would be successful.

Either way, I want to kick the piss out of them the next few years!!!

I could not stand listening to him with May and Rece back in the day. I wanted to reach out and strangle him and I think they did too. Irrational is an understatement!

Would you leave UCF for Nebraska? UCF has the recruiting grounds to win big and resources to pay you. Great gig. Kind of like the Houston job where if you're having success you can ride it to an elite job and aren't likely to jump to just any P5 offer that comes your way.

Well he graduated from that excuse of a school so everything is possible.

I told @TDforTD a couple days ago, Bielma would be the best case hire there and Arkansas might just let him out of his contract if they continue to be so average.

Well at least Bielema would not have to buy any clothes of a different color. Wiscy, Arky, NU, I guess he could wrangle the Rutgers job after that.

I kind of want to see kNU go 7-5, fire Riley, and have to reach way, way, way down on the list to fill the toxic HC position. Is that wrong?

Nebraska will throw every last resource they have at the coach and program for it to be successful. Reilly was an awful fit from the beginning and almost everybody could see that. He's far too much of a goober to succeed in that environment. Depending on the staff he would assemble, I could see Frost building a lot of hype and fairing decently well in recruiting there.

Honestly, though, would people say the same thing about CU if say, Chev was the HC at Houston and CU was looking for a new HC? CU admin and fans don't support the program to even a fraction of the Nebraska does and the natural recruiting grounds are about the same. The only advantage CU has over Nebraska is Boulder >>>>>> Lincoln, but as we've discussed ad naseum, with the right coaches and recruiters, that doesn't mean ****.

“That job is a lot worse than it was a few years ago, and no one in the administration seems to recognize it,” said one anonymous coach to Athlon.
