2018 NCAA tournament thread

IF kansas wins this game, the big 12 will match what the MVC has done since 2013 - sent 2 teams to the final 4. The big 12 has had 33 entrants, the MVC 9.

A buddy of mine bet the under in this game. He didn’t have nice things to say when the game went to OT because of a Grayson Allen miss.

That game felt like a national championship.

Great, great regional final.

That blocking call on Carter was total crap, even as far as block/charges calls go

Yeah I have to agree. My dad was rooting for KU and was trying to argue that Carter moved, but he finally had to admit it was a bad call. The ref already knew what he was going to call before contact was made, I guarantee it.

@dyemeduke

Go Devils!!!

Decent game so far.

Thanks man... ...fun year, but damn their defense sucked so bad this year. They'll have a loaded team next year, but without any senior leadership. oh well....just hate KU and not a Self fan...

Agreed, but Duke had plenty of chances... ...just didn't execute correctly.
Thank you.

I am always amazed at CU fans who root for Kansas.

I call them the basketball Nubs, and people get offended or look at me quizzically. There are very few annoying things that Nub football fans that KU basketball fans don't do.

Same here. CU bball fans seem to generally hate Arizona now that we're in the PAC12, but I still hate KU. I couldn't stand their fans making CEC a home game for them. I hated how they dominated CU. I hated how so many CU students were KU fans. **** KU.... .......

My tournament hope has now become Kansas loosing to Loyola in the championship game

The Duke-KU game was interesting to watch. Fascinating to see the coaching and TEAM play and strategize. The changing, unique defense, e.g., the 4-1(?) zone, and the offense having to adapt. Saw an excellent executed screen at the paint as part of an alley-oop. Could be why the younger, less experienced, Duke team lost -- the senior Grayson Allan tried to be the hero at the end of regulation and came within a half inch of succeeding.

Coach K is arguably the greatest coach of all time. That's not up for debate. Any discussion has to include him - period.

And Bill Self took him behind the woodshed and beat his ass yesterday. Self put on a clinic.

Not sure if Allen was playing a hero at the end, from what I saw Coach K ran the same play for him 5+ possessions in a row because they kept getting great looks and were getting to the line. The biggest takeaway I had was Duke's offense was stagnant with Carter on the bench. The Jayhawks rightfully didn't respect Duval's ability to hit an outside shot and were able to clog the lane/ double team Bagley. In hindsight, I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Coach K played O'Connell more instead of Bolden/ DeLaurier, considering KU doubled Bagley on every catch. I wonder if Duke would've been better suited to open the paint by spreading the floor with another 3 point shooter. But then again, who am I to question Coach K?

I think you hit the nail on the head though, tremendous game watching Coach K and Self playing chess out on the court. One part I found amusing was towards the end of the first half Kansas played zone to fill the lanes. Coach K then subbed in O'Connell to pick apart the zone and sure enough, Kansas went man the very next possession.

Unfortunately I think that was probably the 2018 Championship game played in the Elite 8. I was really looking forward to a Duke vs. Villanova match up as I think they are the two best teams. I know people like to point to the Carter block/ charge call as being the game changer, but it never should've come down to that for Duke. Allen and Trent Jr. shot a combined 4/19 (21%) from 3 and Duke was out rebounded 47-32.

I'm no basketball guy, but I enjoy good games, interesting twists, and Cinderella teams. My wife's mentor is the provost at Loyola-Chicago, and is pretty geeked about this.

Part of me thinks (believes?) this year's Buffs can grow together and make a deep run in the tourney. Following CU is one of the few reasons I will turn on a hoops game.

Loyola, by probably 15. So efficient on both ends of the court. CU would put up a good fight, but I think they pull away in the end.
