CU officially hires Mel Tucker as new Head Football Coach

maybe if we fans are notified?? we could show up and make him welcome? what a thought. Maybe if there was some fanfare generated around a BIG hire - we as fans could help the program, especially nowadays with social media.
It will be held on the practice fields so it will be closed to the public.
Hopefully with this SEC guy we can get some excitement around football again.
Open practices!

Mel Tucker Is A Steal For The University Of Colorado

Colorado just made the steal of the college football season by hiring Georgia DC Mel Tucker.

Somebody tell the shadowleague CU is in the P12, not the Big12.

Read the the first half of his statement, wasn’t he just saying that every P5 league had at least one African American head coach except for the B12. Had nothing to do with what league CU is in. In fact with Tucker I think 1/3 of the P12 will now be coached by African American coaches.

Yeah, I got it the second time I read it. My bad.

Is that a school that FHCMM could fit at?
For sure. And it's the Baylor AD who got pushed out from the scandal. MM had a relationship there. Friends with Briles and, iirc, sent his daughter to go to school at BU.

Issue is that job was paying Gill under $700k. MM could make that or more as a college coordinator and it would be salary he'd get in addition to his buyout, not just an offset against it. He'd have to really want that opportunity for the personal reasons (head coach, religion, relationships, etc.).

One point of concern: At just 32 he was a defensive coordinator at Ohio State and at just 36 he was an NFL defensive coordinator. Why did it take him until 47 to get a head coaching job when he was easily qualified to be a head coach much sooner? And who knows if/when it would have happened if not for CU hiring him.

He has a great resume and is obviously very highly valued as an assistant coach but it doesn’t seem like college/nfl decision makers think highly about his potential as a head coach.

Well he seemed obviously in-line for an NFL HC job if the Chicago job hadn't gone south, he had to rebuild his career in college after that. The fact he was given an interim title at Jacksonville and then given the assistant HC title in 2012, an AHC title at Alabama by Saban, and was a finalist for the Tennessee job suggests to me people think highly of his qualities as a HC.

Maybe lack of a mature perception regarding ethnicity on the part of those who should have hired him to that role earlier in his career?

He's been mentioned at Maryland, Louisville, and I imagine Auburn probably would have looked into him (given he's worked for their daddy Nick Saban on more than one occasion) had their idiot boosters gotten their wish with respect to Malzahn. That's probably a product of the dysfunction he saw in the situations he was in in the NFL-Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Chicago under Marc Trestman (who flopped). No big deal.
