******Official RMS Game Thread******

The Defense is very concerning. CSU was not as bad as advertised on the offenseive side of the ball, but they are light years worse than what the Buffs will see come P12 play. The good news? Most of the defensive failures were mental, those can be quickly corrected...and boy they better be.

I don't know if are light years worse than what we'll see in the Pac 12. Oregon, Washington and Utah probably, but CSU looked about as competent on offense as we've seen from them under Bobo. Collin Hill was making good throws, outside of a few poor decisions, their game plan and scheme seemed really sound, and their OL protected Hill far better than most anticipated. Until we get through this weekend and see where we stack up against a P5 program with high expectations, I'm going to chalk Friday's performance up to game one fundamentals and communication breakdowns and CSU's offense being much better than anticipated.

CSU does not have the speed or the talent that we will see from teams in the PAC 12.

They did though have an experienced QB and a team that has been running the same offense for multiple years. They were able to take advantage of our inexperience in the defense and some inexperienced players. Bobo called a very good game and they had some guys who made plays.

As I said before the defense gives reason for concern but not panic yet. Let's see what happens as they are getting game experience.

Not top to bottom on their roster, but their starting skill players are all pretty good athletes and not just for the MW level. They dropped 577 yards and 31 points on a Pac 12 defense, albeit one that is not supposed to be very good and may lack high end talent, but I also don't believe CU will have the worst defense in the conference this season.

Again, we'll get a much better gauge of just how good/bad the CU O/D are this weekend, which should also tell us more about CSU's offense

I’m anxious to see the OL vs a better front seven this weekend. If they can produce similar results in the run game and pass pro, I’ll feel really good about that group all season long.

Given how nuh got dominated by South Alabama in the run game, I will reserve the designation of them being a qualified representative of a good front 7.

South Alabama had 83 rushing yards on 44 carries (1.9 avg). Granted, that included their QB, which I assume includes sacks... If you take his 18 rushing attempts for 9 yards out of the equation, they had 74 yards on 26 carries (2.8 avg). Not sure I'd say they got dominated by SA in the run game.

They had to become one dimensional because South Alabama’s defense sputtered. Agreed that nuh got better (and there were lots of sacks).

Yup. I watched the game and their front 7 is pretty good. They have some guys injured in the DB area and Eric Lee started (pick-6) and a walkon from Longmont, Eli Sullivan, played about 20 plays at safety when their starter got hurt. Their run defense is their strength and they will bring all kinds of blitzes to pressure the QB.

This is the first chance I've had to post any thoughts on the game, so here goes:

1. Offense looked competent. Any issues there I'm putting up to first game stuff.
2. Tight end!!!!
3. CSU had the emotional edge for the first half - it was what kept them in the game. Bobo is a good coach, and I think he knew he had to dial the emotion up to 11 in order for CSU to have a chance. He did, and they had a chance.
4. The defense is still thinking.

They're thinking a lot.

I don't know if MT's defense is more complicated than what we were running, or if it's just a completely different system where almost every play has different reads and responsibilities than they did last year - but the players were thinking, not playing.

Basically, none of their reads and reactions are second nature yet.

I believe the defense will get better as the year goes on, and we probably won't see the full potential of this defense for a couple years, but at this point I have faith that they'll get there.

By the end of this season, I think they'll be a defense that could completely shut down CSU.

The problem is that we play NU this week, and that worries me.

Agree with everything you said except that Bobo is a good coach. He is not.
