If you were AD... MacIntyre's job security

He has his foibles and may not be the messiah for this program but I think he is doing a good job this year and is making progress overall. At this point I would hate to lose he or his current staff. I think the pieces are in place to have some excellent years moving forward.

He’s given reason to doubt in the past...esp years 3 & 5...but dude knows how to coach and finally has a good staff..top to bottom.
I think this is on point. Overall, there have been valid criticisms in the past.

I want to see how HCMM leverages success this year into recruiting.

But riding this train right now is fun as shjt!

I’m behind him, but if we never get any elite recruiting classes his ceiling will be limited. I’d just like a class that really rocks, with some big uglies on both sides of the ball.

Yep. At some point someone is going to offer him a HC job.
If MM wins 8-10 games this and next year he'll get poached because he won't be viewed as a 'fixer' so much, I'd expect he'll ask Chiv to go with him. The real question then will be if RG gives credit where credit is due as to how much of MM's success will he attribute to the recruiting, coaching and play calling of Chiv? and does he give Chiv a look to promote.

Chev has already said his goal is to be a HC and that he hopes it’s at CU someday. I could easily see it as a Lincoln Reilly situation in Oklahoma where he’s content just being OC until MM moves on.
At the moment that sounds great, but damn that might be a long time he’s waiting.

Maybe I'm off base on this, but I think he is at least 4-5 years away experience wise from being a head coach, especially at the P5 level. There is just no substitute for experience. My hope is that HCMM likes it here, and wants to stay bc I think stability is one of the underrated factors to building a consistent winner in college football. Recruit consistent top 30 (or better) classes, then every now and again you get a couple Laviskas that far our perform their expectation and you are near the top of the national stage. Otherwise you win 7-10 every year. I know Chiv won't be a coordinator forever, but being a head coach takes a number of different skill sets and there is no indication that he (or anyone without the experience of doing it) has all of those skill sets. 3-5 more years of HCMM, then Chiv steps in as a replacement when HCMM leaves to coach the Cowboys.

Whats better: Being the HC of SMU/San Jose State/Fresno State/etc or being the OC for your alma mater CU with essentially being groomed for the HC job (which I imagine is probably Chev’s dream job)?

CU is going to have to pay him to be sure, but he’s on the fast track to his potential dream job; an opportunity he may never get again. He’s also young enough to not feel the need to jump on the first G5 HC job that’s offered.

Besides, there is no need for elite coordinators to settle for a G5 job when they can be candidates for P5 HC jobs. See Jeremy Pruitt, Kirby Smart, Tom Hermann, Dabo, Dave Aranda (eventually), etc.

the way this season is going, i'd advocate for "let's keep the whole band together in 2019." mm, chev, roper, montez, viska, etc. look, if we end up winning 9 or more this season and finish ranked, we are going to start the season next year ranked, and with montez/viska back, we are going to be getting a ton of pub and will be well positioned for a big year. whatever happens after that, we will have taken another step up the ladder to a return to greatness.

Let’s hope.

And that’s great. All this talk about promoting him to HC if/when MM leaves is very premature. We would far rather have a guy with some experience putting together a staff, IMO. If Chev gets a shot as a HC, that’s good for everybody.

If this plays out it'll the perfect storm..waiting for the 19 season to start would be unbearable.
No one at the beginning of this season believed we could beat either SC or Udub on the road, that's now being questioned. Take down SC we'll rise in the rankings, lose a close one to udub drop a spot, then run the table.
The tough games will be uu & wazzu at home and those are good odds.

Control what you can control. The most important thing is that we have increased our on field talent. Just keep improving that and whatever happens with coaches will work out just fine.

maybe some of you have deep inside information, or are clairvoyant (you have ESP, where I only have ESPN) but from my view and experience, Coach Mac has this program going in the direction he wants with the culture he created. He has the facilities that stack up to anyone's, a dynamic staff, and a positive recruiting trend.

This idea that he'd want to trade this for an ACC eternal also-ran with severe academic restrictions--G-tech, or some SEC eternal homecoming opponent (Vandy, Ole Miss) just escapes me. Sure, if a true blue blood, like Alabama-Michigan-Oklahoma-Ohio State came calling I could see it. But to take a step down after all he's worked to create here? I just don't see it as likely.

Last year he would have left if a lateral opportunity had been there. A lot can change in a year, though. At this point I think it would take someone offering obscene money or it being a program that people would perceive as a bigger job -- maybe both of those things.

definite maybe on last year. it was rough on numerous fronts. I'm glad it wasn't tested. J-Mac is having a great year and it sure is fun to watch this group. there is real character to go along with talent.

Yes. Macintyre’s attitude LY was really bad. I understand that winning makes things feel better, but the HC being mopey doesn’t get young men motivated. When the HC is dancing and smiling, that’s great. But, can you find a way to smile and have a sense of purpose/joy even when you lose? The team has a sense of purpose, no quit this year. When they face even more adversity, it’s up to Macintyre to keep it together.

His kids have graduated from CU. Someone with cash to burn will throw money at him.

There's these: SEC HC job $1mill more a year, he's already recruiting to meet academic restrictions, personal history and by all accounts he does like a challenge & last his age. His roots in CO are shallow when you consider his prior coaching by geography. I can see it happening and it would make sense considering we've seen him blow a gasket or two with P12 officials. Beating some/most of the P12 coaches currently pale compared to the opportunity of beating Saban.

If he stays, great. He has things headed upward. If he leaves, great. We are in a position to attract an upper echelon coach.
