Come on folks, the scrimmage has been going for 14 minutes. WHERE ARE MY UPDATES???
**** you.
I am just hoping we look good running the ball.
:yeahthat:
Running game is priority No. 1 in my book.
I just got back to the lab a few minutes ago and since i have a lot of stuff to take care of (the price you pay for a long, football filled lunch) I only have time for a few quick things:
Clark Evans played a few series and looked a lot better than some have given credit for. It was nice to see such a tall guy back there. He did mostly handoffs but threw a few decent looking balls.
Simas had a really sick catch. Whoever it was was on him like white on rice but still managed to come up with it in the air.
The running game looked pretty good. We have so many great runners, I don't know what we'll do with them all. Scott had some good runs (and catches!) and Speedy had some good runs early on but didn't see much action after that. Sumler was in there a lot too along with Lockridge. Quentin Hildreth even saw some action, taking 2 or 3 handoffs from Evans and showing some good speed/elusiveness.
The defense overall looked better than I expected. Kasa is a BEAST. I saw him handling 2 O-linemen at once trying to break through and he was handling things pretty well. Bonsu is huge and definitely looks the part. I wasn't able to see him in action much but he'll be a big help. Herrod was tearing it up too.
Finally, the highlight of the day for me: Scott makes a catch and starts running toward a defender. Does he run out of bounds? Does he juke him? No. He jumps right the flip OVER him and almost clears it but his leg hit the guy's head and he went down. Then the ball got loose and someone (I think it was Mohler) almost runs it back for six. BUT... Tyler Hansen did not take kindly to that and DESTROYED the guy. I heard it from the opposite end of the field. It was savage.
That ended up being a lot more than I thought. I apologize for my lack of detail though. Oh well, I hope I was able to give some of you a small fix.
Agree, one reason Cody struggles to get the ball down field is because we have not had a consistent running game. Get that running game going, mix in some play action and the big plays will come!
Go Buffs!
You're not taking it far enough. The reason cody has struggled is that the o-line has sucked. The running game has sucked cause the oline has sucked. The oline really should be opening up serious holes on our inexperienced d-line at this early stage scrimmage. I'll be woried if our oline isn't doing some manhandling.

Wait wait wait. Tyler Hansen leveled Shaun Mohler???!?! Wow. :wow: Good for him! Would've loved to see that intensity. Is it Sept yet??!
Guess its a no win situation for the Buffs. If the line blew holes open and we ran all over the field we would be worried about the dline. If the dline stuffed the run we would be worried about the oline. DAMMIT!
Nevertheless, before the sun sets tonight, there will be people in here taking one side of that argument, or the other, and telling us that we're doomed! DOOOOOOOMED!:smile2:
I would not read too much into today. For whatever reason, it looked very vanilla on both sides. Hardly any pre-snap motion on offense, I would be very surprised if that continues into the season.
Pretty much thought it was a waste of time, they obviously were not willing to show much of anything.

and the inside fake hand-off punt play where Grossnickle shovel passes to Iltis, too!
VERY Disappointing!
What the F***? No 78Z right inside screen? No 42 cross rifle zone flood pass patterns? Why, I bet they ignored the triple Code Blue man/combo zone blitz with the safety and corners all coming, and the inside fake hand-off punt play where Grossnickle shovel passes to Iltis, too!
VERY Disappointing!
