The 2021-2022 Coaching Carousel

The article didn’t really specify, but I’m guessing the $8 million buyout is the cost of Dykes leaving for another job, not the cost for TCU to fire him. Most likely TCU would owe what is left on the contract. CU screwed up by not having a hefty buyout for Tucker to leave (and obviously by overpaying KD). I think it was something comical like $500K for Mel to leave after only one year. CSU put a $5 million buyout on McElwain and at least got paid when he left for Florida.
I think that was part of the deal though. Tucker wouldn’t have come if the buyout was too high, b/c, we’ll…he had a plan.

I’m not saying he would have agreed to a $5 million buyout, but he was a guy who had been passed over for years and was eager to get his shot. He didn’t have much leverage at that point. We certainly could have structured some kind of sliding scale where he owes $5 million if he leaves after 1 season, $3 million after 2, etc. I just think CU is so bad at contract negotiations that we didn’t even consider it. The main point of my post however was that there seems to be a lot of confusion about the word “buyout.” We complain that it would be so expensive to fire KD right now but that’s because he’s only completed two years of a five year deal and we overpaid him. It’s not because we didn’t structure his contract to say we can fire you after two years and only pay you $4 million. That rarely, if ever, happens at any school. No coach is going to sign a contract like that. The cost to fire KD is so high because we gave him 5 years and way overpaid with his annual salary. Just about every school owes their coach what is left on the deal when he is fired unless he is fired for cause.

Kelly getting roasted right now for what seems like no reason. He didn’t leak the news about leaving, LSU did. Also to pretend like these players aren’t up and working out/practicing/studying is dumb.

Feldman says he did an in home with a recruit shortly before it leaked. The straight up lying to people's faces and deception that goes in situations such as this is hard to swallow IMO.

Urban will go full on ND if the exotic dancers in South Bend will only wear nun inspired get ups. Sources say he would be 'all over it'. Ha

South Bend is close enoigh to Chicago that he would be able to find a suitable strip club and/or brothel for his dalliances.

The Boom goes the dynamite Update

(h/t Carolina) A little bit of insider flavor, had a sit down with some TCU insiders over Thanksgiving, Patterson was told to rearrange his staff and let some AC's go, he declined, in a, shall we say, colorful manner. Two days later he was fired unceremoniously. Overplayed his hand.

Impressive work, Lefty!

Saw your tidbit on TCU and it puts a lot of things into context. It was rumored for years Patterson basically had a blank check at TCU (top ten HC pay in the country).
