Wilner: DTV deal likely before football season barring last minute snags

On the bright side - if I do have to go a season without being able to see many games, this might be the season to do it. Also on the bright side, I just checked the Dish Network installation schedule in my area, and if they get the P12N I can get an installation the next day - and also be able to tell DTV **** you. Probably pissing in the wind, but hell...

Called DirecTV just now. I'm in no position to cancel as I still have 15 months left on my contract, but I wanted to let them know I was upset. He said they've been getting a lot of complaints and he really hopes they get it resolved too. So nothing new there. But I did bring up how I wanted to get the Red Zone channel and he ended up giving me NFL Sunday Ticket for free. So that was worth the 5 minutes.

Seriously? What did you say? I called today too, told them I wanted the Pac-12 channel, lady told me that all she knew was that they were still negotiating. I told her that if they don't have Pac-12 network then the only thing keeping me would be Sunday Ticket, but I was mad because new people get Sunday Ticket for free. She said too bad. Is there a magic phrase to give them, or did I just talk to an un-generous DTV rep?

Guessing un-generous. Honestly, I try to get Red Zone every year, and this is the first time it's worked for me. One of my buddies gets it for free as a stand-alone every year, and I follow his instructions only to get shut out. I was overly polite to the guy, and pointed out that I don't really want Sunday Ticket because my team is local, but that I really miss the Red Zone channel from my cable days.

EDIT - here's some more advice - http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=208243

Probably only 2 or 3 of CU's games this year will end up being on the Pac12 Network anyway.

customer service rep at DTV would not give me the red zone channel for free. Did say the hold up is that the P12N is trying to charge DTV more for the P12N than they are charging the other channels.

However, she did say this: "we will be getting the P12N"

so i just got off the phone with DTV and the rep told me that beginning this weekend, directv will have PAC12 games streaming on their website FWIW

hmmm, I'm going to put this in the same bucket as CU having an improved football team: I'll believe it when I see it.

Make them want to help you. Don't be an arse...

I got it and more on my 4th or 5th try...

I was very polite, too...

they offered me the NFL Sunday Ticket but I would have had to step up for 2 more years so I passed and they gave me $20 off per month. DIdn't want the contract extension cause I'm still planning to leave if they don't resolve this soon.

Looks like the dish html coding guys are ready to flip the switch - from the current source code on mydish.com:

C'mon guys - you're gonna win some customers pretty quickly with this!

I got both for a one year contract, subscriber since '98...

In retrospect I wish I would have pressed for more...

That's what I got on my 2nd attempt. First call they offered me nothing.

So the key is calling multiple times and being polite?

I'm currently rethinking the decision. I'm mad at both the Pac and DTV. I don't care who wins...

Whoever offers live, DVR, streaming online as well as iPad, iPhone, Netflix, Hulu + and AppleTV or whatever will get my next contract.

Scott's minons chumped this one up in a bad way. This was NOT the product we were sold.

Make it happen Larry. Fire the ones responsible and hire solid guys or gals to get the job done...

At this point the Pac is most responsible.

They chomped the deals big time...

Their lead negotiator choked...

Haven't heard much about the other Pac-12 fanbases and how they feel about the Pac-12 Network. What would they be saying if it was under one voice?

Guess it's time to start emailing Larry too.

Amen to that. It's easy to blame the cable companies but I believe the Pac-12 let the cable companies have more of their way instead of the other away around and Pac-12 fans are having to pay more money. Why would I pay another $63 per month to Comcast for the Digital Starter pack when I already get four ESPN channels for free on Xfinity TV and I could add more sports for as little as $5 per month?

It doesn't feel that the online streaming stuff is that important with the Pac-12 especially when Larry said that exposure was very important for the Pac-12. I think he failed the 12 schools and fans big time. The Pac-10 presidents voted us in not Larry.

Cal students are unable to watch the Pac-12 Network and their AD is begging for a deal with DTV.

It's time to hold Larry accountable for some of those failings. Time for some of those Pac-12 fans to quit their penis worship of Larry Scott.

If anybody has a Comcast/Xfinity login that has access to the Pac 12 Network online, I'd be willing to trade my Netflix or HBO go login for access. Send me a PM if you're interested.

sounds good new guy that no one knows.

I just got off the phone with Directv after seeing a message that Directv rejected the adding of the P12 network on 30 Aug.
I asked if adding PAC12 network to Directv was still being discussed between both and she said yes but no agreement has been reached.
Anyone know if this is true?

According to Jonathan Wilner, Yes.

I still can't figure out why Comcast is excluding the Pac-12 Network from large parts of the country. They've gotten A LOT of complaints, but haven't done a thing (at least not here in Houston). I can only hope that an eventual deal with DTV or DISH will have an impact.

Yup, and the crappy thing is that I can't even go out to a sports bar to watch it. I just checked the Firkin and Phoenix website. They're hosting a Bama game.
