Good day re:CSU

Does the Sparkmeister have any cred with recruits after this if he stays? Man, I wonder if Frank will invite Sparkles to the Christmas party? How can he possibly stay after all of this?

Part of me is sad for the CSU fans (both of them) to see some progress going up in smoke.

The other part of me is chortling and dancing while clapping my hands excitedly together and crying out 'MOAR!!! MOAR!!!'
Good visual

Still think CSU doesn't look bad in all this Nik? I thought that UF looked far worse, but now that ESPN has taken up the storyline that CSU agreed to lower the buyout, and now won't (whether accurate or not, that is now the narrative)....I think CSU looks pretty horrible.

Tony Frank seems like a real jackass. Blindsides two AD's and then won't let his current coach leave for a dream opportunity. I'm sure people are begging to work for him.

I imagine this ends today

Foley didn't have the authority to write a $7.5M check yesterday, so he went home to get the approval and/or secure the funds from boosters. Any other scenario and his tweet about "a great meeting in FtCo and talks are ongoing" is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Edit: Somebody else already posted this, but it is a great read on the situation. Even if there is a bit too much "UF is so great and who is this CSU anyway" vibe to it.

OK. Think about this for a second. This is ESPN we're talking about. You think they're going to paint UF in a bad light? That column was pure spin. And while technically correct on all levels, it's also very heavily biased towards the UF side of things.

It does bring up a good point, though. Frank isn't just playing hardball with UF. He's essentially playing hardball with ESPN. That's a great way to ensure your athletic department gets zero national exposure.

Where's the goat?

Very curious to see what the compromise is on the buyout issue...
This. I'm on record multiple times that I didn't believe there was a chance in hell the $7.5M would stand up when put to the test. I am super curious to know the final result. Even half of it and a home & home (or something like that) is a win for CSU, IMO. If they got more than that, good for them.

I kind of think they got all of it....

Apparently no meeting with the players at CSU. Ugly

I think they already got the message yesterday. Telling them he is out before the bowl game would have been tough enough. After yesterday, it would have been ugly.

Wow, and to think that us (CU fans) thought the hold up might be due to wanting to tell the players and do things the "right" way.

nu vs csu for bowl game would be allsome. 2 teams with players that have quit playing

The whole point of the huge buyout was so programs wouldn't even come sniffing around, and if they did, they presumably had the money to make this work. We won't ever know all the specifics, but Florida can't cry that they want a coach under contract yet aren't willing to pay for it. They knew what they were getting themselves in to. The fact that they made this into a big public spectacle isn't CSU's fault. CSU didn't make him the richest coach in the MWC before having a single down of head coaching experience, at the expense of a large buyout, to just rollover when someone else wanted him. Florida can cry and stomp their feet but this is all their own doing. Obviously it's a moot point now that it's apparently worked out. I'm curious to see what the final details are, if that info is ever released.

I hope he had to common courtesy to send a text to the players. That's how these things are handled these days, right?

You aren't wrong, unless Frank sat there and told Sparkles they would reduce the buyout.... and then renegged. In that case, CSU does look like ****tards.

Yeah Idot, it really is taking off!

Don't know if you guys noticed, but Mike MacIntyre is now the head coach at Florida according to Wikipedia (link)

Its Ok. It looks like its only fat Mike MacIntyre.

vandalism has been fixed but HCMM's picture is still with SJSU. If anyone has a pic of him with the Buffs, that you took personally, and is willing to give up all rights and claims to said image, PM me and I'll update the wiki page if you don't have the inclination to figure it out.

And maybe they did. We don't know what Florida's initial offers were or what the real hangups were.

You have to take what Jack Graham says with a grain of salt. Everything he's said/done since being fired hasn't had CSU's best interests in mind. That said, nothing about this really makes sense. The written agreement says Frank can lower the buyout at his discretion. Theoretically, Sparkle's dream job would be a school that actually has the ability to pay a large buyout. Sparkles's job in Fort Collins isn't done, which is why his buyout is so high. I don't mind him wanting to go to Florida, but it takes some supreme arrogance to think you can come to the Fort, take our coach, and think we will thank you for giving us half the buyout. It was the wrong approach to take for both Florida and McElwain. Curious to see who we can hire.
