^^ For sure. He's definitely the most dangerous of the two, but both in good and bad ways. I didn't think much of Key after the Savannah State game, because of all the turnovers, but Stevens (lack of ) arm strength was so glaring on Saturday that it makes me question whether or not he can be effective against real teams.
With Stevens going 8-19 for 51yds and 2Int's you have to make the switch I think. That performance is unacceptable.
Id' like to see the Buffs play with a mean streak. Go out there pissed off and nasty.
On O we need to run the ball a lot. Bend them to our will.
On D we need to stuff their run game and I'd be happy to see another one of our DB's get ejected for targeting one of their wide outs.

So I've been watching a recording of hte CSU game today, trying to see what they've got.
They played a big 10 opponent, but in all reality, one that is pretty weak.
I think CSU is weak in the QB position (although he didn't have his top receiver), and their special teams are pretty special...but not in a good way.
I actually think that if CU plays the way they did the past two games that they will win pretty decently.
I think Hawaii would handle CSU the way they played on Saturday.
However, we all know that teams change from week to week. I just hope our D and running game show up again, and that Sefo limits
the mistakes. If we do those things (and no more 15 yard punts), we should walk out 2-1!

I didn't think Stevens was awful. He wasn't getting much help with balls hitting several guys in the hands and dropping them and other times, guys just weren't open. Key has a gun, but will make more mistakes.
And Higgins will be back. He was a game time decision on Saturday and he was close. He actually was asking to go in for the 2nd half but they wouldn't put him in. I'd expect that he will be at or near full strength by Sat.

Which CU team shows up? Hawaii CU team and we lose by two touchdowns. UMass CU team and we win by a FG. CSU will be fired up as usual and expect them to play their best game of the year. We need better play from the QB, and our O line makes below average D line look like a team of JJ Watt clones on pass plays and I don't care what QB plays for CSU we are still letting to many receivers get open or worse missing tackles and allowing them way to much YAC.
CSU will have the edge on special teams because they don't have our special teams coach.

Until proven otherwise, CU can't handle adversity. If we go up early and build a large enough cushion to absorb the onslaught, we'll be ok. But a three or a ten point lead late in the second, and then when CSU seizes the emotional momentum and fights back to bring it within 3 (or go ahead), I just don't know if we'll handle it. And that goes for both coaches and players - do we abandon a running game that's working in that scenario? Do the players tighten up and **** the bed? And if we're playing from behind after each team has had two possessions? I don't like our chances at all.
I could be proven wrong, and eventually, someday I will be and CU will regain its mojo and say "down by a score in the fourth quarter? **** you, we're going to win." I don't think we're there yet. I think there will be one of those "defining" exchanges sometime late in the 2nd quarter or early in the 3rd - where we either fight back or fold. It won't matter if we're down or ahead at that point, momentum will be there for one team to seize. Until we do it, I don't know if we can.
God I hope we (finally) rise to the occasion.

Reading this I suffer Toledo flashbacks. The person with the football is always the most dangerous player on the field, running ability or not.
Unless JJ Watt is on the field, obviously that dude is a freak.
Minnesota is not all that weak! Don't underestimate CSU either. The Buffs will have their hands full. I'm not sure who to pick to win this game.

If you go by when they were recruited, CU has better athletes/personnel than csu. This is our coaching staff's 3rd year and their's first year. If we lose this game, I will have serious, serious concerns about our current regime. Serious doubts. This is a game we should win handily.
Yeah @DBT , I hate the glorified community college up north as much as anyone, but they have managed to assemble a pretty decent team over the last couple of years. Aside from the QB, they should have some solid talent.

I get that we haven't won any close games recently but I don't understand people saying we fold at the first sign of adversity. We need to give this team some credit. They fight til the end.
This year we were 8 yards away from coming back against Hawaii on the road (not saying we should have been down in the first place). I would hardly call that folding. Last year the team played in plenty of close games and made some mistakes down the stretch in games but I wouldn't say they folded. We scored 17 unanswered to come back against UCLA, only to lose in OT. We came back to win against UMASS last year.
I get it that there are plenty of games last year we lost in the second half but I would argue some of that was due to a lack of adjustments by coaches and some was due to just being outmanned. If you want to see what a teams that folds under adversity looks like go back to the Hawkins/Embree days.
The last time they truly folded was the 2nd half of the CSU game last year. Ever since they have fought until the bitter end.

Agreed. I actually loved their response to the lame targeting call against UMASS. Instead of folding the Buffs came out and destroyed UMASS from that point forward.
I think the buffs have finally learned how to punch back. They need to start being the ones to punch first though.
