This team should still make the Rose Bowl......

Penn State believes they belong in the playoff - not only did they miss out but a team they beat, who finished behind them in their division is in. That's their disappointment.

Number one ... Pedo St is just glad to be in a NYD bowl after the schollie reductions and other sanctions they were saddled with for two years before they were rescinded. Number two ... I can only assume you weren't brought up in or even spent much time in B1G country. Believe me .. the Rose Bowl is not considered to be a consolation prize for a B1G team ... even in this day of the CFP.

So, Joey Galloway railed in support of Ohio State being in the playoff and Danny Kanell hated it.

When Kanell said that Penn State had to be feeling crushed Joey Galloway explained that teams play to win their division, to win their conference and to win the National Championship so Penn State would feel awesome because they won the division and the B1G 10. I wish Kanell would have asked him to explain how the team who succeeded on the first two goals, in direct competition with Ohio State, can end up feeling good that Ohio State gets a chance to go after the final goal.

We'll see. I know the Rose sentiment very well, both my parents are Michigan alums. The kids on the team are not thinking about sanctions and scholarship reductions - they're thinking they should be in the playoff and they're not, but a team they beat is. The Rose is a wonderful consolation for them, but I'm sure getting left out of the playoff has to sting a little. Remember what happened to CU in the 2002 Fiesta?

Yes I do ... very well. And I still believe to this day that our ****ty performance in that game had a lot more to do with the "incident" in the early aftermath of the Big XII CCG win and the resultant discord on the team about that, as well as other issues better discussed in the "members only" room, than it did any disappointment about not making the MNC game.

And Oregon played the game after thinking that they deserved to go to the MNC game more than Nubb, and they were right. But any "disappointment" they might have felt didn't seem to impede them, did it?

I have no idea what you're talking about, but finishing the way we did and getting left out in favor of Nebraska was a bitter pill.

I guess we'll see what happens, I think USC wins that game easily.

Really ... you don't? Here's a hint: The "incident" eventually led to the "scandal" about three years later. And it also didn't help that a team leader sat out the first offensive series for "violation of team rules" the night before ... not because we missed his offensive contribution for one series, but because it demonstrated a lack of senior leadership before that game. That was very disappointing.

I guess we'll see what happens, I think USC wins that game easily.

I agree with that ... I just don't agree that "disappointment" in not making the playoff will be a factor.

So we're going to get smoked at the Alamo?
I hope not, but I don't see the situations being all that similar. Both teams are coming into that game off a loss, so not sure either team is feeling super confident at the moment.

Free speech, and all, they can say what they want.

It would be my preference if our players didn't tweet their frustration over the bowl selection.

1. It invites others to remind them of Friday's game.

2. It appears less than gracious to the Alamo Bowl.

2001 NU can't win their division, but plays for the MNC.
2016 tOSU can't win their division, but gets a shot at the MNC.....

I'm well aware of that similarity, but that's not what he is referring to.

My God people! Have you forgotten so soon what led to our football downfall over the last decade? Lisa Simpson? Baine Kerr? Betsy and **** as a term of endearment? Jeebus!!

There is no better illustration of "Life is NOT FAIR" than that of college football and this...

I agree it's a bad look for the players to be pissed off, but just because I'm not surprised doesn't mean i'm not pissed off at this one. This is bull**** the more that I think about it. We're told that the committee selection protocol is to consider:
  • Championships won
  • Strength of Schedule
  • Head to Head competition (if it occurred)
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)
CU has a Pac12 South championship, USC has none. According to Sagarin, CU had the 8th ranked SOS, USC was 14th. CU's strength of record was 7th, USC's was 11th. In H2H competition, USC beat CU by 4 points at home, without CU's starting QB, and in a sport where homefield advantage is calculated to be worth between 3-6 points. Among common opponents, CU was 6-1 and USC was 5-2.

CU wins on resume on every one of the 4 pillars of the committee's protocol except H2H, yet they rank one lower than USC and are left out of the Rose Bowl as a result. It's particularly galling when you realize that the committee minimized the importance of H2H results to favor one blueblood and exaggerated the importance to favor another.

It kind of makes you wonder what CU would have needed to have done in order to get into the Rose Bowl over a team that didn't win their division.

Good points SC. Particularly that H2H was the determining factor for USC, but somehow completely ignored for Penn State.

I ****ing hate Penn State, for the obvious reasons. But correct me if I'm wrong. They play in the same division of the same conference as OSU. They have the same record. They beat them head to head. And they won their division and conference. Their only flaw is a bad loss to a top 10 team.

I know this has been discussed to death. But I can't figure it out.

And the loss to Pitt...

Penn State would be in the CFP if they had the same record as OSU.

True ... it was the Pitt game that did them in. Much like it was the Iowa game that did in Michigan's chances ... if they didn't lose that and took tOSU to double OT before losing, they'd be in the playoff.

The trojans and Pedo St....the puns abound.

I knew the Rose Bowl turds would drop the Buffs like a hot potato. The Buffs gave them no reason not to when they got blown out in the CCG. Gotta take care of business.
All we had to do was win, or lose close. Instead, we got blown out by a team that got blown out by USC. They were given every reason they needed. By us.

College football is the only sport where the loser of a gold medal game can get the bronze. The Rose Bowl douchebags should just announce that the most important aspect of their selection criteria is whether or not you are a California school.
